How to download and deploy Windows 10 version 1903 updates?

1.Pre-requisites

Prerequisites to deploy Windows 10 1903 update

  1. Before deployment, run through the Compatibility Check available under the Important Notes section to find if you meet all the minimum requirements that impact upgradeability.
  2. Ensure that feature pack option is enabled under Patch database settings.
    In Endpoint Central: Patch Mgmt -> Settings -> Patch Database Settings -> click on the Windows tab and enable the Feature Pack option.
    In Patch Manager Plus: Admin -> Settings -> Patch Database Settings -> click on the Windows tab and enable the Feature Pack option.
  3. Ensure that you have not declined the feature pack updates under decline patches section.
  4. Microsoft has recommended upgrading to the latest version Windows 10 1909. You shall directly upgrade to the Windows 10 1909 version from your existing version of Windows 10 and, you do not have to deploy any versions in between.

2.Download and Add the dependency patch (ISO file) to the Patch store.

Windows 10 1903 Enterprise and Professional Edition

Follow the steps below to download the ISO image:

  1. Download Windows 10 1903 ISO file from Volume Licensing Service Center.
  2. If you're using PMP Build Version 10.1.2228.6 and above:
    • You'll be able to find an option to upload near the Download failed error message. Using Upload you can install this patch.
    • Else navigate to Patches -> Downloaded Patches and then search for the required patches. Once done, upload the patches via Upload Patches and click on Install Patch.
  3. If you're using DC Build Version 10.1.2228.6 and above:
    • You'll be able to find an option to upload near the Download failed error message. Using Upload you can install this patch.
    • Else navigate to Patch Mgmt -> Patches -> Downloaded Patches and then search for the required patches. Once done, upload the patches via Upload Patches and click on Install Patch.

If you're using PMP Build Version below 10.1.2228.6 and DC Build Version below 10.1.2228.6:

  1. Download Windows 10 1903 ISO file from Volume Licensing Service Center.
  2. Navigate to the patch store: To find patch store location in Endpoint Central, navigate to Patch Management -> Downloaded Patches -> Settings -> Patch Repository Location
  3. To find the patch store in Patch Manager Plus, navigate to Patches -> Downloaded Patches -> Settings -> Patch Repository Location
  4. To find the patch store in Vulnerability Manager Plus, navigate to Patches -> Downloaded Patches -> Settings -> Patch Repository Location
  5. Copy the downloaded ISO file manually into the patch store directory, and rename the ISO file as given below:

    6. Language-English:

  • 32 Bit: 106988-Win10_1903_en_enterprisex32.iso
  • 64 Bit: 106984-Win10_1903_en_enterprisex64.iso

The above naming convention is applicable only for Windows 10 1903 Enterprise edition.

Other Windows 10 1903 Editions

For Endpoint Central build version 10.0.319 and above
  1. The ISO file download is automated in Endpoint Central build version 10.0.319 and above (Except for Windows 10 1903 Enterprise Edition). Kindly follow the steps given here to enable the automatic download of the ISO image.
  2. After enabling directly proceed to the feature pack deployment step.
For Endpoint Central build version below 10.0.319
  1. Download Windows 10 1903 ISO file from Volume Licensing Service Center or from here.
  2. Navigate to patch store location: To find patch store location, navigate to Admin-> Patch Settings -> Clean Up Settings -> Patch Repository Location.
  3. Copy the downloaded ISO file manually into the patch store directory, and rename the ISO file as given below:

Language - English

  • 32 Bit: 106986-Win10_1903_enx32.iso
  • 64 Bit: 106982-Win10_1903_enx64.iso

The above naming convention is not applicable for Windows 10 1903 Enterprise edition.

  1. Download Windows 10 1903 ISO file from Volume Licensing Service Center or from here.

3.Deploy the Feature Pack.

Manual deployment of Windows 10 1903 update

  1. In the server web console, navigate to Missing Patches view.
  2. Choose the Windows 10 1903 feature pack patches you wish to deploy.

    3. Patch ID details:

  • 106989 - Windows 10 1903 Enterprise Edition - 32 Bit
  • 106985 - Windows 10 1903 Enterprise Edition - 64 Bit
  • 106987 - Other Windows 10 1903 Editions - 32 Bit
  • 106983 - Other Windows 10 1903 Editions - 64 Bit
  • Click Install Patch to deploy them.

    • Automated Deployment of Windows 10 1903 update

    1. To create an APD task for deploying feature packs, make sure to select the feature pack check box while defining the patch task.
    2. Once the dependency patch is downloaded and stored in the Patch Store, "Feature Packs" will be successfully deployed to the target computers during the subsequent deployment window. A separate configuration can be created for the particular patch on demand.
