Managing File Systems

ADManager Plus enables administrators to add and configure file systems so that permissions and access rights can be centrally managed. Currently, we support Windows file systems, DFS namespaces, and NAS file systems. Click here to view the supported NAS platforms and versions. Once configured, these file systems can be used for permission management, access monitoring, and detailed reporting, helping administrators maintain security and compliance across their file storage environments.

Steps to configure file systems in ADManager Plus

1. Log in to ADManager Plus and navigate to the Management tab.
2. Under File Server Management, click Manage File Systems listed under Configuration.
3. From the Storage Type drop-down, select the desired type: Windows File Systems, DFS Namespaces, or NAS File Systems.
4. Click Select Computers or Select Namespaces based on the chosen storage type. A pop-up will display the list of all available computers or namespaces.
5. Select the required entries and click OK.
6. Click Add.
7. The selected entries will be added to the list. Once added, they will also be available for all file management and reporting capabilities in ADManager Plus.

In case you face any issues when adding the new file servers, follow these steps:

1. In the Windows server in which ADManager Plus is installed, navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\ and click the hosts file.
2. Once the hosts file is opened, locate the NAS file servers and add the following entries for each server along with their corresponding IP addresses:
   • Fully qualified domain name (FQDN)
   • FLAT name
3. Sample entry:
   • FQDN: computer1.domain.com
   • FLAT Name: computer1
4. Once the two entries are added, save the hosts file.
5. Re-run the steps to add a new file server.
