Error Code 1603. Java Update did not complete.

Problem

You are trying to install java patches and the installation fails with a message, "Error Code 1603. Java Update did not complete."

Cause

This might be due to some issue in the application level. This error could also occur if a problem occurs while removing or creating the Java Folder or Files.

Resolution

Here are some of the methods to troubleshoot this issue:

  1. Restart your computer before installation
    • When you get the 1603 error message, restart your system.
    • You can install the patches by navigating to the Patch Mgmt tab -> Patches -> Missing Patches -> Select the patches you want to install and click on Install Patch -> Specify the deployment policy and the computers/users to deploy the hotfixes/patches.

Note: You can either configure the deployment policy to initiate deployment during the 'System Startup' and then reboot your machine or reboot the machine and then apply the deployment policy as 'Default policy'.

  2. Uninstall Java versions before installation
    • If the above resolution doesn't work, we recommend you to uninstall all existing versions of Java from your systems.
    • You can uninstall them by navigating to the Software Deployment tab -> Deployment -> Install/Uninstall Software -> Specify the package details and choose the computers/users to uninstall the hotfixes/patches using software deployment.

This is applicable only for Endpoint Central. The Software Deployment tab is not available for Patch Manager Plus. Hence, you'll have to uninstall the Java applications manually.
