# Patch Installation - "Fatal Error during Installation" ## Problem You are trying to install patches but you get an error message - "Fatal Error during installation". ## Cause This may be due to the following reasons: 1. Application is running in the background during installation. Eg: Deploying Google Chrome patch when Chrome processes are running on the client machine. 2. Errors specific to some patches. ## Resolution Try **redeploying** the update at **System Startup**. If the problem persists, contact [support](mailto:msp-endpointcentral-support@manageengine.com) with the following logs: 1. If you get this error message while trying to install a Non-Microsoft patch manually, then send the failure message screenshots. 2. If you get this error message while trying to install a Microsoft patch, then verify the `%windows%\KB******.logs` and upload the same. 3.
