Problem Generating Patch Scan Data

Problem

Patch Manager Plus Agent downloads the scanning related files, containing the latest patch details. If an issue occurs during download or extraction of these files, then the patch scanning process will fail with the error "Failed to download required scan files"

Cause

  • Scanning immediately after installing agents on a fresh setup may fail because the scanning-related files might not yet be available.
  • Proxy might restrict downloading the scanning related files.
  • Patch Manager Plus Agent folder might be blocked by antivirus.
  • Communication instability between the server and agent
  • The computers belonging to remote office might not be able to reach the distribution server.
  • Failures in replicating files from the server to the distribution server

Resolution

  1. Fresh Setup:
If patch scan is initiated in a fresh build set up immediately after installing agents, the scanning-related files might not have been downloaded yet. Ensure that the Vulnerability DB sync has completed successfully in the Update Vulnerability DB page. Wait until the update is completed and then re-retry scanning, which is expected to be completed successfully.
  2. Proxy restriction:
Ensure that the proxy configured in Patch Manager Plus Agent does not block downloading the scanning related files to the default agent installation directory /usr/local/manageengine/uems_agent.
  3. Agent blocked by antivirus :
Ensure that the Patch Manager Plus agent folder, located at /usr/local/manageengine/uems_agent by default, is added to your antivirus exception list to avoid any interference with downloading scanning-related files.
  4. Server-agent communication issues:
Ensure stable network connectivity between the agent and the server, if the agent communicates directly with the server. The Agent Troubleshooting Tool can be used to diagnose such issues.
  5. Distribution Server not reachable:
Ensure stable network connectivity between agents in remote locations and the Distribution Server. The Agent Troubleshooting Tool can be used to diagnose such issues.
  6. Replication failures:
Verify that the Distribution Server replication has completed successfully and is up to date. Navigate to the Agent tab in the Patch Manager Plus console, select 'Remote Offices' under the Scope of Management section, and check the DS Sync Status and Remarks. Additionally, ensure there are no communication issues between the Server and the Distribution Server.
