# Dell Password Validation Failure

A Dell BIOS update can fail during flash with **Invalid Password(s)** and **Exit Code 7 (Password Validation failure)** in the BIOS log. The console remark can appear as **Failed Patch Deployments**.

## Cause

The mapped BIOS password is missing or incorrect. The Dell firmware update utility exits because password validation failed.

## Check password-protected status

1. Deploy Pre-Requisites patch **113598** to check BIOS password-protected status. After it is deployed, the password-protected status is visible.
2. Review BIOS Mapping Status under [Attention Required](https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/help/patch-management/attention-required.html#bios-mapping-status).

Patch ID **113598** checks password-protected status. It is not the Dell PowerShell module patch **111808** used for password-protected BIOS patching.

## Resolution

1. Navigate to **Admin → BIOS Credential Settings** (under **Patch Settings**).
2. Add or update the BIOS credential with the correct password, and map it to the affected computers.
3. Re-deploy the BIOS patch.
