# Error: Your OS Deployer setup has been compromised. As a precaution, the server has been shut down — Recovery Steps **Last Updated On**: 14 Nov 2025 **2 minutes read** ## Recovery Steps > **Note** > Keep the machine disconnected from the network until all the steps below are completed. 1. Disconnect the affected system from the network. 2. Back up the OS Deployer database by following [these steps](https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/help/misc/desktop_central_data_backup_restore.html). 3. Format the compromised machine. > **Note** > Ensure all critical business data is backed up before formatting the machine. 4. Restore OS Deployer by following [these steps](https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/backup_restoration_desktop_central_server_incompatible.html). - Ensure the build version of the new installation matches the build version of the backup created in Step 2. - It is strongly recommended to perform the new installation on a different machine. 5. After restoring, update OS Deployer to the latest build using the steps below: i) Log in to the OS Deployer console and click the current build number in the top-right corner. ii) Download the latest PPM file available and apply the update. > **Recommendation** > Reset all passwords associated with services, accounts, and Active Directory that were accessed from the compromised machine.
