Creating Sub Group

This section is common to all the editions of IT360 - Professional Edition, Enterprise Edition (Central Server and Probes), and MSP Edition (Central Server and Probes).

By using this option, you can create a sub-group within a Business Service (i.e., a Business Service within a Business Service). The sub-groups help better organization of your resources. With sub-groups, you can capture advanced dependencies in your infrastructure. You can group clustered databases or servers and create complex groups. For example, a huge banking application business service may contain 100 monitors (application servers, systems, databases, URLs, etc.,). All the database monitors can be grouped under a sub-group, for effective monitoring.

The steps for creating a sub group for each edition is as follows:

Steps to Create a Sub Group for Professional Edition and Enterprise Edition

Creating a Sub-group is a similar task as Creating a Business Service. You can create a sub-group for a Business Service by doing the following:

  1. Login to the IT360 console and click the My Dashboard tab.

  2. Click the Name link of the Business Service, under the Business Services section, for which you wish to add the sub group.

  3. In the Business Service Summary page displayed, click the Add Sub Group icon. The Add Sub Group (Sub Group Details) wizard is displayed, as shown below.

  1. Provide a 'Name' and 'Description' for the sub-group.

  2. Select the Owner, from the list of users, created. Click on Assign / UnAssign Users. This lists all the Users, available to the Owners list.

  1. Select the Location, for associating the business service to a particular geographical location from the drop-down. You can also provide your own location, by clicking Add Location that opens up the Google map. Here, you add custom locations by doing the following:

    1. To navigate to a location, use the controls on the top left of the map.
    2. Select a location in the Map by clicking it with the mouse. You will see an image indicating your selection.
    3. Add a name for the location in the Location Name field and click Add Selected Location.

  1. Click 'Next' to Associate Network Devices. (follow the same steps here).

  2. Associate Storage Devices (follow the same steps here)

  3. Associate Servers and Applications (follow the same steps here)

  4. Click 'Finish' to end up with the sub group creation. You will then be automatically re-directed to the Summary page of the sub-group.

Note:

1. Alternatively, you can also add monitors (at a later stage) to the sub-group, by clicking 'Finish' after providing Name and Description.

2. You can view the sub group created, by clicking the Inventory tab in the Business Service Summary page. Scroll down to view it under the SubGroups widget.

3. In the Summary page of the sub-group, click on the link 'Associate the Monitors' link, to associate the relevant monitors to this sub-group.

Steps to Create a Sub Group within a Business Service - MSP Edition

Creating a Sub-group is a similar task as Creating a Business Service. You can create a sub-group for a Business Service by doing the following:

  1. Login to the IT360 console.

  2. Choose the Customer, for whom you wish to create the Business Service, from the 'Customers' drop down list. The page gets redirected to the My Dashboard page.

  3. Click the Name link of the Business Service, under the Business Services section, for which you wish to add the sub group.

  4. In the Business Service Summary page displayed, click theAdd Sub Group icon. The Add Sub Group (Sub Group Details) wizard is displayed, as shown below.

  5. Provide a 'Name' and 'Description' for the sub-group.

  1. Select the Location, for associating the business service to a particular geographical location from the drop-down. You can also provide your own location, by clicking Add Location that opens up the Google map. Here, you add custom locations by doing the following:

  4. After completing steps i-iii, you can click 'Finish' to end the sub-group wizard process. You will be then automatically re-directed to the Summary page of the sub-group.

Note:
