Adding Credentials

Introduction

This section is common to all the editions of IT360 - Professional Edition, Enterprise Edition (Probes only) and MSP Edition (Probes only).

IT360 accesses the remote devices, by using the protocols SNMP, WMI/Windows, Telnet/SSH, or VMware. The credentials, such as the Password / SNMP Community, Port etc., may differ for different device types. Pre-configuring a set of credentials in IT360, helps applying them to multiple devices at a time, saving a lot of manual effort. You can edit/remove the existing credentials and add new ones.

Note:

1. The Credentials can be added only for Servers and Network Devices.

2. You need to add the credentials to allow it to be properly categorized. Otherwise, the newly created device will fall under the Unknown Category.

1. Steps to Configure Credential Settings

Credentials can be configured using the below mentioned methods:

1.1 Configuring Credential Settings using Credential Settings Wizard

  1. Login to IT360 console with the Username and Password of an Admin user.

  2. Click the Admin tab in the header pane.

  3. Click Credentials under Discovery. In the Credential Settings wizard displayed, do the following:
  4. Click 'New Credential' under Actions and configure the following parameters in the Add Credential window that pops up:
  1. Credential Type: Select the relevant protocol (SNMP v1/v2 / SNMP v3 / Windows / Telnet/SSH / VMware).

  2. Configure the below details, if you have chosen SNMP v1/v2 in step (i):

    • Name: Configure a name for the credential.

    • Description: Enter a brief description about the credential.

    • SNMP Read: Enter the SNMP Read community String with which IMS must authenticate itself to the devices.

    • SNMP Write: Enter the SNMP Write community String with which IMS must authenticate itself to the devices before make a write operation. (Note that this is not used anywhere in the application yet).

    • SNMP Port: Enter the SNMP port number.

    • SNMP Timeout (secs): Enter the time interval required for polling.

    • SNMP Retries: Enter the number of retries required for polling.

    Note: The fields 'SNMP Port', 'SNMP Timeout (secs)' and 'SNMP Retries' are displayed, only when you click the 'Advanced' button. Again on clicking the 'Basic' button, these fields will be hidden.

  1. Configure the below details, if you have chosen SNMP v3 in step (i):

    • Name: Configure a name for the credential.

    • User Name: Configure a User Name for the credential.

    • Password: Configure a Password.

    • Port Number: Enter the port number.

    • Timeout (secs): Enter the time interval required for polling.
  1. click 'Add' to add the credentials.

Note: The SNMP credentials created are used during the initial discovery and classifications. IT360 uses these credentials to classify and add the devices.

1.3 Configuring Credential Settings using Quick Configuration Wizard

The Quick Configuration wizard is used to perform configuration tasks on several devices. You can use this wizard to associate a service to several devices at one go. Here are the steps:

  1. Login to IT360 console with the Username and Password of an Admin user.

  2. Click the Admin tab in the header pane.

  3. Click Bulk Configuration under Monitoring Configuration.

  4. Select the Network Devices radio button. In the Quick Configuration Wizard wizard displayed, do the following:

  1. Select the option 'Associate a credential to several devices and click 'Next'.
  1. All the available Credentials are listed. Select the Credential which you want to associate to your devices.

  2. Select the devices to which you want to assign the credential from the column on the left and move them to the right.

  1. Click 'Finish'.

The selected credential(s) is/are associated to the selected devices.

2. Editing Discovery Credentials

You can edit a Discovery Credential by following the below steps:

  1. Login to IT360 console with the Username and Password of an Admin user.

  2. Click the Admin tab in the header pane.

  3. By default, the Credentials tab will be selected, else click that tab.

  4. In the Credential Settings wizard displayed, click the icon beside the 'Credential Name' that you want to edit.

  5. Make the required changes in the parameters and click 'Update'. The changes made you is updated in that particular Credential.

3. Deleting Discovery Credentials

You can delete a Discovery Credential by following the below steps:

  1. Login to IT360 console with the Username and Password of an Admin user.

  2. Click the Admin tab in the header pane.

  3. By default, the Credentials tab will be selected, else click that tab.

  4. In the Credential Settings wizard displayed, click the icon beside the 'Credential Name' that you want to delete. In the confirmation window displayed, click 'OK' to confirm deletion. The selected Credential is deleted from the list.
