Understanding IT360

ManageEngine IT360 is a web-based monitoring tool that manages the performance of Network devices, Servers, Applications, Databases, Systems, Services, Bandwidth, Storage devices, Websites, and JMX/SNMP-based custom applications in a complex IT infrastructure.

You can find six module tabs at the top which are explained as follows:

Dashboard

Dashboard tab provides an overview of the various business services that has been configured through IT360. The user can also shift betweent the List view, Business view, Tree View, Plasma View and Global Business View.

It also lists various dashboards (Network Dashboards, Servers & Applications Dashboards and Traffic Dashboards). The user can also "Add" new dashboards based on the requirement from the drop-down menu.

List View: Various business services are listed in alphabetical order. It provides the availability, health, monitor status and today's availability for each individual business service.

Business View: Provides a graphical view of various business services. Depending on the health of each business service, the business service is represented in either Red for critical, Orange for warning and Green for good.

Tree View: Lists the various business services in alphabetical order with each sub-groups and monitors associated with each business service displayed in tree structure. It also displays each monitor type, its availability and health.

Plasma View: The plasma view enables you to have a snapshot of what is happening with the monitors, at one glance. The view can be put up on a plasma screen, and you can have a look even when you are not in front of the monitor. This view opens up in a pop-up window.

Global Business View: In this view, the Monitors will be arranged in an default order.You can re-arrange the Business Service and click on the floppy disk icon to save the view. You can also zoom in and out of the view, and save the zoom level which is optimal for your viewing. This view opens up in a pop-up window.

In addition, the user can also click on "Add Business Service" and create one.

Networks

It has seven different views:

All Network Devices: Lists all the various business service and the network devices associated with it in a tree view along with its availability and health.

Availability: The Availability tab provides the availability history of all Monitors in a snapshot. You can get the data for either the last 24 hours or the last 30 days.

Performance: The Performance tab provides the health history and events of all Monitors in a dashboard. You can get the data for either the last 24 hours or the last 30 days (excluding today).

Network Snapshot: Displays the entire snapshot of various network devices health and availability. It includes Infrastructure snapshot and Business View snapshot. It also includes Recent Alarms generated by IT360 for various devices, and the Availabilty Distribution and Alarms Graph for the same.

Dashboard: Provides the overall Average Availability, Availability Distribution, Top-N Least Available and Top-N Link Utilization graphs in a single snapshot.

WAN Monitors: Displays the list of WAN monitors that are being monitored. It also provides the user with average round trip time (RTT) and its availability. The user can also add or remove these monitors from the view by clicking on "Add Monitor" or "Remove" respectively.

Storage

This shows the Storage Infrastructure that displays the following information grouped under device types - Fabric Switches, Storage Arrays, Tape Libraries, etc:

Category: Dropdown listing all the Storage Device types. You can select any one device type or Select All and accordingly the devices are listed.

Show: Dropdown allowing you to choose the total number of Alarms to be displayed at a time in the page.

Device Type Table: Lists all discovered devices of the particular type with following details:

  • Device Name: Name of the device along with the Status icon is shown. Click on the name link to navigate to device inventory page.
  • Type: Type of the device is shown with its relevant icon.
  • Recent Alarm: Most recent alarm raised against the device is shown. Click on the Alarm Message to navigate to the alarm detail page. If there are no alarms, message 'No alarms reported since discovery' is shown with no link.

Latest 5 Alarms: Below the infrastructure view, the latest 5 alarms are listed, sorted on time.

Servers

This is similar to Network view, except it has two new views called

Servers Icon View: In this view, the user will be able to see the list of servers that are being monitored displayed in as Icons. These icons represent the type of the server (Windows/Linux), its current availabiltiy status and also the list of applications that are currently running in the server.

Servers Table View: In this view, the user is presented with the list of applications running on each server along with its availability in a table format.

Applications

In this view the user will have one more new view to look at:

Resources Summary View: Otherwise know as the "Category View", IT360 displays the various applications that is being monitored by category. On clicking on any one of the application/database the user is taken to a snapshot view which has the list of all monitors of that particular type displayed with its availability.

Traffic

IT360 provides a global dashboard view for the various routers configured for monitoring them.

Network Snapshot: It provides a quick overview of all routers configured and displays the traffic (in Kbps). It also displays various router's Device Name, Max Speed, Avg Speed, Volume and Percentage of Total Traffic. It also displays the Top Interfaces by Speed and Top Interfaces by utilization.

Inteface View: It displays the entire list of routers with details of Interface Name, Status, IN Traffic, OUT Traffic and Alerts. To know more about Interface View, click here.

Autonomous System View: It displays the autonomous systems (AS) to which a router belongs, along withIN / OUT traffic details for each AS. To know more about the AS view, click here.

Alarms

Alarms are notifications generated based on some condition or criteria, helping to detect problems when any of the servers running in the network is experiencing it. This improves the fault management ensuring productive application monitoring.

The following Alarms can be viewed under this tab:

  • Network Alarms
  • Storage Alarms

There are three severity levels for the Alarms and they are

  • Critical
  • Warning
  • Clear
  • Attention

Alarms are generated for the following type of attributes:

  1. Availability of a Monitor: When the availability of the Monitor is down, the severity is represented as and when it is up, the severity is represented as .

  2. Health of a Monitor.

  3. Attributes of a Monitor: Alarms will be generated, if the threshold profile condition set for these attributes is met.

IT360 also allows user to view alarms generated for last one hour, last one day, configured traps, unsolicited traps and JMX notifications.

Storage

  1. Summary Reports : These reports show the latest inventory or capacity summary information for the Storage Devices.

  2. Capacity Reports: These reports fetch the latest capacity information for the Storage devices.

  3. Availability Reports: These reports fetch the latest availability information for the Storage devices.

  4. Performance Reports: These reports fetch the latest performance information for the Storage devices.

  5. Forecasting Reports: These reports predict the future trends of the usage in terms of traffic and Storage capacity.

  6. Scheduling Reports: You can configure OpStor to send scheduled reports on Alarms, Storage Capacity, Availability and Performance.

Admin Lists the admin operations such as adding new servers & applications, database, network devices and storage devices, discovering network, importing monitors, do bulk configurations, etc. To know more about Administrative operations, click here.
Servicedesk Clicking this tab takes you to the Servicedesk module page, where you can monitor and maintain the assets and IT requests generated from the users of the IT resources in an organization. To know more, go through the userguide and adminguide.
