Create a logical view of your heterogeneous IT infrastructure
by grouping resources, such as applications, servers, and
systems in your network. We call the logical view a 'Monitor
Group' and the applications and servers are 'Monitor
Types'. Each of the instance of a Monitor Type is called
as 'Monitors'. This gives you
an integrated view for effective monitoring and management.
For example, the performance
of an online web application depends on various factors, such
as the health of the application
server hosting the web application, the availability of
the web server for accessing
the web applications, the database
server for storing or getting the required information,
etc. These web applications and services can be grouped together
and monitored as a single business application.

A nice enhancement to our Release 7.4 was the support for a hierarchical monitor groups. This should help our users to better group & monitor IT resources. Here is how -- With the traditional approach to monitoring resources, where only high level availability and health are known, it is harder to visualize what resources need more attention.
