SQL Server - Database Performance Metrics

 

This tab displays the lists all the databases which are present in the SQL Server.

Database Details

Parameters

Description

Name

Displays the Name of the database of the SQL server.

Data File (MB) Displays the data file size of the database of the SQL server.
Log File (MB) Displays the log file size of the database of the SQL server.
Used Displays the total used space of the data file/log file of the SQL server.
Free Displays the total free space available in the data file/log file of the SQL server.
Total Displays the total alloted size of the data file/log file of the SQL server.
Max size Displays the maximum file size of the data file/log file of the SQL server upto which it can grow.
Total size (MB) Displays the total file size of the entire database of the SQL server.
Percentage Log Used Displays the percentage of Log used of the database of the SQL Server.
Status

Displays the current status of the database of the SQL Server.

  • ONLINE : Database is available for query.

  • INACTIVE : Database is inactive as it is no longer accessed by any application for some time now.

  • OFFLINE : Database was explicitly taken offline.

  • RESTORING : Database is being restored.

  • RECOVERING : Database is recovering and not yet ready for queries.

  • SUSPECT : Database did not recover.

  • EMERGENCY : Database is in an emergency, read-only state. Access is restricted to sysadmin member.
Availability Displays the current availability of the database in the SQL Server.
Health Displays the current health of the database in the SQL Server.

When you click on the database name, SQLDBManager Plus displays the following performance metrics:

  1. System Tables

  2. Table Relationship

  3. User Tables

  4. View Details

  5. Index Details

  6. Indexes that have not been used

  7. Fragmentation Details

  8. Indexes that have been used

In addition, it also displays the total Data file size, total Log file size, Used in terms of percentage, Used in terms of MB, Free in terms of percentage, Free in terms of MB, provision to configure alarms and a link to update the data file size.

It also displays detailed performance metrics of Data file size such as Creation Date, Data File Growth Rate, Maximum Growth and Data File Location.

For Log file, you get Log Cache Hit Ratio, Number of VLFs, Log File Growth Rate, Maximum Growth and Log File Location.

You can also view performance metrics of Transaction Details and Log Flush Details and configure alarms and actions for these performance metrics.

Note: The data file details of the databases are updated once in an hour. However, you can update the entire list of data files by clicking on the link 'Update Data File'. To change the polling frequency of the data file, go to Performance Polling in Admin panel and configure.

 

Database Management Actions

SQLDBManager provides the ability to perform the following actions on your database(s).

 

Parameters

Description

Online

Changes the offline database(s) to online state.

Offline Changes the online database(s) to offline state. If there is any open connection in the database, this action waits for the connection to be closed and then brings the database offline.
Offline with no wait Checks for open connections and changes the online database(s) to offline state only if all connections are closed. This action returns error without waiting for existing connections to be closed.
Offline with immediate rollback Changes the database(s) to offline state immediately and all incomplete transactions are rolled back.
Offline with rollback after given time Waits for the specified period of time for the open connections to close and then brings the database offline. If there is any incomplete transactions even after specified period of time, the transactions will be rolled back.
Delete Deletes the selected database(s) permanently from the server.

 

Database Connection Detail

Parameters

Description

Database Name

Displays the name of the database.

Login Name Displays the SQL user name connected to the database.
No. of Connections Displays the number of connections currently open in the database.

 

Log Shipping Status

Parameters

Description

Database Name

Displays the name of the database.

Agent Type Displays the type of agent - Backup, Copy or Restore.
Status Displays the status of the database log shipping - Starting, Running, Success, Error, Warning
Time Elapsed (in min) Displays the total time taken to run the log shipping operation.
Log Time Displays the time and date last log shipping operation.
Error Log Time Displays the time of the last error log shipping operation ran.
Error Message Displays the error messages received while running the log shipping operation if any.

 

Session Details

You can find the list of sessions, lock and block running for the selected database.

Parameters

Description

Database Name

Displays the name of the database.

Agent Type Displays the type of agent - Backup, Copy or Restore.
Status Displays the status of the database log shipping - Starting, Running, Success, Error, Warning
Time Elapsed (in min) Displays the total time taken to run the log shipping operation.
Log Time Displays the time and date last log shipping operation.
Error Log Time Displays the time of the last error log shipping operation ran.
Error Message Displays the error messages received while running the log shipping operation if any.
