Join / Unjoin Computer Tool

The free Join/Unjoin Computer tool can be used to move a computer between domains or from a domain to a workgroup or vice versa. It also have options to restart the client computer after moving. Click the Join/Unjoin Computer from the Launcher to invoke the tool. You have the following options:

• Moving a computer from one domain to another
• Moving a computer from a workgroup to a domain
• Moving a computer from a domain to a workgroup

Moving a computer from one domain to another

To move a computer from one domain to another, follow the steps below:

1. Select the Domain to Domain option.
2. Specify the name of the domain from which the computer is being moved.
3. Specify the Domain Admin user name and password of the old domain.
4. Specify the name of the domain to which the computer is being moved.
5. Specify the Domain Admin user name and password of the new domain.
6. Specify the name of the computer that is being moved.
7. Specify the IP Address of the DNS Server of the new domain
8. Select the "Restart the Client computer after Moving" option, if the computer has to be restarted.
9. Click Move.
10. Check the status of the operation displayed at the bottom.

Moving a computer from a workgroup to a domain

To move a computer from a workgroup to a domain, follow the steps below:

1. Select the Workgroup to Domain option.
2. Specify the name of the workgroup from which the computer is being moved.
3. The user name and password can be either the common user name and password of the workgroup or the user name and password of the computer that is being moved.
4. Specify the name of the domain to which the computer is being moved.
5. Specify the Domain Admin user name and password of the new domain.
6. Specify the name of the computer that is being moved.
7. Specify the IP Address of the DNS Server of the new domain
8. Select the "Restart the Client computer after Moving" option, if the computer has to be restarted.
9. Click Move.
10. Check the status of the operation displayed at the bottom.

To move a computer from a domain to a workgroup, follow the steps below:

1. Select the Domain to Workgroup option.
2. Specify the name of the domain from which the computer is being moved.
3. Specify the Domain Admin user name and password of the old domain.
4. Specify the name of the workgroup to which the computer is being moved.

6. Specify the name of the computer that is being moved.
