Microsoft Azure DNS Zone - An Overview

A Domain Name System (DNS) Zone serves the purpose of hosting the DNS records for a particular domain. Azure DNS ensures a globally distributed and high-availability name server infrastructure, capable for managing your DNS records. Applications Manager's Azure DNS Zone monitoring tool guarantees high performance, security and reliability of your Azure DNS Zone.

Monitored Parameters

Navigate to the Category View by clicking the Monitors tab. Hover over 'Child Monitors' under Microsoft Azure in the Cloud Apps table, and then select the DNS Zones monitor from the displayed tooltip. This action will display the bulk configuration view for Azure DNS Zone in three tabs:

  • Availability tab gives the Availability history for the past 24 hours or 30 days.
  • Performance tab gives the Health Status and events for the past 24 hours or 30 days.
  • List view enables you to perform bulk admin configurations.

The Microsoft Azure monitor provides a brief detail of the Azure DNS Zone under the given subscription. Following are the list of metrics monitored in Azure DNS Zone Monitoring in their corresponding tabs:

Note: The default poll interval of the monitor is 60 minutes.

Resource Group NameThe name of the resource group.
LocationThe location of the resource.
Zone TypeThe type of the DNS zone. Possible values: Public/Private.

Name Server 1

The name servers for the DNS zone.

QUERY VOLUME
Rate of Query VolumeThe total number of queries served per minute for a DNS zone, between poll the interval (in queries/min).
Total Query VolumeThe total number of queries served for a DNS zone, between the poll interval.
RECORD SETS
No. of Record Sets (Max)The maximum number of record sets present in a DNS zone, between the poll interval.
Record Sets LimitThe maximum number of record sets that can be created in a DNS zone.
Records Limit Per Record SetThe maximum number of records per record set that can be created in a DNS zone.
CAPACITY UTILIZATION OF RECORD SETS
Capacity Utilization of Record Sets (Max)The maximum percentage of record set capacity utilized by a DNS zone, between the poll interval (in %).
