Microsoft Azure Storage Sync Service

Microsoft Azure Storage Sync Service - An Overview

Azure Storage Sync Service is a cloud-based service provided by Microsoft Azure that enables the synchronization of files between on-premise file servers and Azure file shares. It allows organizations to centralize their file storage in Azure while maintaining local access to files and folders from their existing file servers or network-attached storage (NAS) devices.

A robust Azure Storage Sync Service monitoring tool is essential for ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security. Read on to learn how to fully leverage the monitoring capabilities of Applications Manager.

Monitored Parameters

Navigate to the Category View by clicking the Monitors tab. Hover over 'Child Monitors' under Microsoft Azure in the Cloud Apps table, and then select the Storage Sync Services monitor from the displayed tooltip. This action will display the bulk configuration view for Azure Storage Sync Service in three tabs:

  • Availability tab gives the Availability history for the past 24 hours or 30 days.
  • Performance tab gives the Health Status and events for the past 24 hours or 30 days.
  • List view enables you to perform bulk admin configurations.

The Microsoft Azure monitor provides a brief detail of the Azure Storage Sync Service under the given subscription. Following are the list of metrics monitored in Azure Storage Sync Service Monitoring in their corresponding tabs:

Performance Overview

Parameter Description
SYNC SERVICE RESULTS
Server Online StatusLogs the status of the registered server successfully recording a heartbeat with the cloud endpoint at the time of polling (Aggregation Type: Minimum). Interpreted from numeric values: 1 - Online, 0 - Offline.
Sync Session ResultIndicates whether the server endpoint successfully completes a Sync Session with the cloud endpoint at the time of polling (Aggregation Type: Minimum). Interpreted from numeric values: 1 - Successful, 0 - Failed.
DATA SYNCED
Data SyncedThe total data synced between the poll interval (in GB).
CACHE SIZE
Server Cache SizeThe average size of data cached on the server between the poll interval (in MB).
Cache Data Size by Last Access TimeThe average size of data cached by the last access time between the poll interval (in MB).
FILES SYNCED
Files SyncedThe total number of files synced between the poll interval.
FILES NOT SYNCED
Files Not Synced (Avg)The average number of files failed to sync between the poll interval.

Cloud Tiering

Parameter Description
LOW DISK SPACE MODE
Low Disk Space ModeIndicates whether the server endpoint is in low disk space mode at the time of polling (Aggregation Type: Maximum). Interpreted from numeric values: 1 - On, 0 - Off.
CACHE HIT RATIO
Cache Hit RatioThe average percentage of bytes that were served from the cache between the poll interval (in %).
RECALL SUCCESS RATIO
Recall Success RatioThe average percentage of successful recalls between the poll interval (in %).
RECALLED DATA SIZE
Recalled Data SizeThe total cloud tiering size of data recalled between the poll interval (in MB).
RECALLED DATA SIZE BY APPLICATION
Recalled Data Size by ApplicationThe total cloud tiering size of data recalled by an application between the poll interval (in MB).
RECALL THROUGHPUT
Recall ThroughputThe average cloud tiering recall throughput between the poll interval (in MB/s).
TIERED DATA SIZE
Tiered Data SizeThe total cloud tiering size of data tiered to the Azure file share between the poll interval (in MB).
TIERED DATA SIZE BY LAST MAINTENANCE JOB
Tiered Data Size by Last Maintenance JobThe total cloud tiering size of data tiered during the last maintenance job between the poll interval (in MB).
