License FAQ

  1. What is a Monitor?
A Monitor in Applications Manager refers to a specific Application, Server, Service, or Web URL. The performance of these entities is monitored based on metrics like CPU Usage, Response Time, and more. Examples of supported monitors include Windows Server Monitor, WebLogic Monitor, Oracle Database Monitor, Service Monitor, URL Sequence Monitor, Apache Monitor, etc. For example, if you want to monitor 100 SQL Server installations in your network, each of the 100 SQL Servers will be considered as an individual monitor.

Consider the Apache web server used by www.appmanager.com as an example. This monitor (Apache web server) may have numerous performance metrics exposed. For information on the performance metrics available for an Apache Monitor, refer to Apache Monitoring documentation.

It's important to note that the total number of monitors includes both user-added monitors and default monitors. However, default monitors are not counted when calculating the number of monitors for licensing.
  2. Are CPU Utilization and Response Time monitors?
No, they are performance metrics. For licensing purposes, each server or web server is considered as a monitor. CPU Utilization, Response Time, etc., are performance metrics associated with a server monitor.
  3. Can I purchase a Perpetual License (a one-time payment License)?
Yes, you can buy Perpetual License instead of Annual Subscription. Please contact sales@manageengine.com to know more
  4. Where can I see the total number of monitors?
For getting the total number of monitors
    1. Click on About link on top, you can see the number of monitors configured.
    2. Click on Monitors tab, under category view, you can see the total number of monitors configured.
    3. Click on Monitors tab, under All (Bulk Config) view, you can see the total number of monitors configured.
    4. Click on Monitors tab, under All (Bulk Config) view, you can see the total number of monitors configured.
    5. Click Support tab, under Installation Information, you can view the total number of monitors you are entitled to.

The total number of monitors will include the monitors added by default. However, these default monitors will not be counted when calculating the number of monitors for licensing purposes.

If you don't want a particular monitor to be included in the licensing count, you can unmanage it, which means data collection will not occur. More information on the Manage/Unmanage option is available in the Help Document. When a monitor is unmanaged, the monitor count will not decrease but will remain the same in the Category view. You can view the list of Managed and Unmanaged monitors from the Bulk Config View. If you have a license for 250 monitors and the Bulk Config page shows fewer than 250 monitors under the Managed category, you can add new monitors. Unmanaged monitors will not be counted towards the licensing total.

  5. What does 'number of users' mean?
It is the number of users who will need to access the Product Web Client.
  6. I downloaded the Free Edition (to test five monitors - full time), but now I want to test the other monitors too. How do I get a Professional edition evaluation license (unlimited number of monitors - 30 days)?
Go to the Support Tab of Applications Manager from the browser and under License Information table there will be a link Evaluate. Once you click on that link, you will be able to add an unlimited monitors and users for 30 days. Your free edition will now become an Evaluation version. After 30 days, it will automatically switch back to the Free Edition.
  7. What is the purpose of an additional user license?
A multi user environment allows more than one user to simultaneously login to the Web Console. Additionally, you can make use of the various roles such as 'Operator', 'Manager' and 'Read Only User' to have more control over which users see what data.
  8. What is the difference between the Professional and Enterprise Edition?
Enterprise Edition has all features of the Professional Edition. The core difference is :
    • Higher scalability. It has the ability to provide a single console for over 1000 monitors by supporting a distributed architecture (Central Admin Server along with many Managed Servers -probes). There is no separate pricing for Managed Servers.
    • Ability to provide a single console for applications and servers being monitored in multiple restricted networks. HTTP(s) access is sufficient across these networks.
    • Failover Support is available only in Enterprise Edition

Checkout the Professional Edition Pricing and also the Enterprise Edition pricing.

  10. If a Database Server has more than one database running in it, will it still be considered as one monitor?
In the case of MySQL, IBM DB2, MS SQL database servers, multiple databases will be running within them. Irrespective of the number databases running in them, each database server will be considered as one monitor. However, the Oracle database server will have different instances of the database running in it, hence each instance of Oracle will be considered as a separate monitor.
  11. How do I enable Monitor Add-On(s)?
The Monitor Add-On is included with the product itself, requiring no separate download. Applying the license after purchasing a monitor Add-On, such as the SAP Add-On, will enable the corresponding monitor, such as the SAP Monitor. For purchasing a monitor Add-On, please contact appmanager-support@manageengine.com. You can also view the complete list of Add-Ons provided by Applications Manager here.
  12. How many monitors can I use if I purchase an Add-On?
If, for example, you buy 25 monitor license and SAP monitor Add-On, you can configure and monitor 25 number of SAP servers. SAP Add-On is for enabling the SAP monitoring feature in Applications Manager.
  13. If a service is running on a server, will they be treated as two separate monitors?
This depends on your monitoring requirements. If you only need to monitor the service itself, it won't be counted as a separate license; instead, we consider the server alone for licensing purposes. However, if you require in-depth monitoring of the service, the service and server will be treated as two separate entities and counted as two separate monitor licenses. Each service will be monitored separately based on its underlying technology, which can be any process with a TCP port.
  14. Do I have to pay for an Applications Manager database license?
No, Applications Manager comes bundled with a database. Therefore, you do not have to purchase a separate database license to use Applications Manager.
  15. Does the Annual Subscription fee cover Maintenance and Support?
Yes, the Annual Subscription includes Maintenance and Support fee.

  16. Does the Annual Subscription fee include phone support?
