Windows 10 Feature Pack Deployment -The Windows 10 version 21H1 May 2021 update

Note
Windows 10, version 21H1 is marked as EOL by the vendor. Hence, we don't support patching for this version.

Deploy the Windows 10 21H1 feature pack to cloud-managed endpoints by preparing prerequisites, adding the required ISO to the distribution store, and configuring manual or automated deployment.

Steps to deploy Windows 10 feature packs

1.Prerequisites

Prerequisites
  1. Before deployment, run through the Compatibility Check available under the Important Notes section to find if you meet all the minimum requirements that impact upgradability.
  2. Ensure that feature pack option is enabled under Patch database settings.
  3. Navigate to: Admin → Settings → Patch Database Settings → click on the Windows tab and enable the Feature Pack option .
  4. Ensure that you have not declined the feature pack updates under decline patches section.
  5. Microsoft has recommended upgrading to the latest version Windows 10 2020. You shall directly upgrade to the Windows 10 21H1 version from your existing version of Windows 10 and, you do not have to deploy any versions in between.

2.Download and Add the dependency patch (ISO file) to the distribution store.

Windows 10 Enterprise Edition

Follow the below steps to download the ISO image.

  1. Download Windows 10 ISO file from Volume Licensing Service Center .
  2. Navigate to distribution store in the Distribution Server: To find the distribution store location <DS_INSTALL_DIR> → Replication → Store.
  3. Copy the downloaded ISO file manually into the distribution store directory, and rename the ISO file as given below:

Language-English:

  • 32 Bit: 108787-Win10_21H1_en_enterprisex32.iso
  • 64 Bit: 108783-Win10_21H1_en_enterprisex64.iso
Note
The above naming convention is applicable only for Windows 10 Enterprise edition.
  • Patch Manager Plus supports the deployment of feature packs for multiple languages. Click here to view the ISO setup file for the language of your choice.
Note
To deploy Windows 10 feature packs in more than one language, download the ISO file for each required language and place every file in the distribution store.
Other Windows 10 Editions
For roaming agents

Roaming users using Windows 10 Professional Edition can now upgrade to this feature pack without following any of the below mentioned steps. Simply use the Patch ID:108780 to deploy this feature pack to roaming users.

Note
Feature pack deployment is not supported for roaming users running Windows 10 Enterprise Edition.
For agents under Distribution Server
  1. Download Windows 10 ISO file from Volume Licensing Service Center or from here .
  2. Navigate to distribution store in the Distribution Server: To find the distribution store location <DS_INSTALL_DIR> → Replication → Store.
  3. Copy the downloaded ISO file manually into the distribution store directory, and rename the ISO file as given below:

Language - English

  • 32 Bit: 108785-Win10_21H1_enx32.iso
  • 64 Bit: 108781-Win10_21H1_enx64.iso
Note
The above naming convention is not applicable for Windows 10 21H1 Enterprise edition.

3.Deploy the Feature Pack.

Manual deployment
  1. In the server web console, navigate to Missing Patches view.
  2. Choose the Windows 10 feature pack patches you wish to deploy.

    3. Patch ID details:

  • 108788 - Windows 10 21H1 Enterprise Edition - 32 Bit
  • 108784 - Windows 10 21H1 Enterprise Edition - 64 Bit
  • 108786 - Other Windows 10 21H1 Editions - 32 Bit
  • 108782 - Other Windows 10 21H1 Editions - 64 Bit
Note
For customers having windows 10 2004 / 20H2 versions deploy the below patches:
108790 - Feature Update Windows 10 21H1 via Enablement Package (2004/20H2 - 21H1) (x86)
108789 - Feature Update Windows 10 21H1 via Enablement Package (2004/20H2 - 21H1) (x64)
  • Click Install Patch to deploy them.
    • Automated Deployment
    1. To create an APD task for deploying feature packs, make sure to select the feature pack check box while defining the patch task .
    2. Once the dependency patch is downloaded and stored in the Distribution Store, "Feature Packs" will be successfully deployed to the target computers during the subsequent deployment window. A separate configuration can be created for the particular patch on demand.
