In this part, we will discuss about account lockout, unlocking the locked out accounts and how to avoid lockouts in future. Also learn about how M365 Manager Plus helps you solve challenges that you face while using native tool.
There are several reasons why an Microsoft 365 account gets locked out like:
- Users entering wrong user ID and passwords.
- Cached credentials and service account passwords.
- Active threads retaining old credentials.
- Multiple logons from various computers and devices.
It is always good to take preventive measures like ensuring the correct credentials before entering them, logging off all your previous sessions and cleaning the caches regularly. Once an account is locked out nobody can access it. It needs to be recovered first. This unlock process usually involves verification of the user details. It is vital to provide a recovery email to simplify this process. Usually when an account is locked out, the user can request for a password reset or other alternative solutions that would be mailed to the recovery email (which should be an active email address). Using these solutions and answering a few security questions the user can recover the account without an administrator’s interference.
In case you do not have a recovery email, make sure to use a computer that you’ve previously used to sign in when attempting to recover your account. Microsoft recognizes computer IP addresses. (this is not mandatory) and fill out the account recovery form as given here. Once the account is unlocked you can use Microsoft 365 Manager Plus tool to overcome shortcomings in the native tool and manage Microsoft 365 effectively.
