Business-to-Business collaboration also known as B2B sync is a feature that allows SharePoint and OneDrive content to be shared and accessed across different organizations. Users from other organizations will be logged in as guest users and given limited access, just about adequate to view and access the resources shared with them.
Here's an overview of how B2B sync works:
- A user from domain1 shares a folder with a user in domain2.
- The user from domain2 receives an email inviting them to access the shared folder.
- Once the recipient clicks on the link to the shared item, they'll have to click on Organizational account to sign in with their domain2 account. What happens behind the scenes is, a guest account is created for them under domain1 in Azure AD.
- Once they have entered their domain2 credentials, the user should be able to access the shared item. The user needs to click on Sync to start the syncing process. Should they not want to sync the entire content, they can browse to the respective file or folder and then start the syncing process.
- Now the browser will display a message asking them if they want to open Microsoft OneDrive. The user has to allow this.
- After confirming the item they want to sync, OneDrive will start the syncing process.
