To sync the data between cloud OneDrive and local machine and to work with the files and folders offline, you need to install OneDrive sync app. By default, the new OneDrive sync app (OneDrive.exe) needs to be installed for each user on their PC under the %localappdata% folder. However, using the new per-machine installation, OneDrive can be installed under the "Program Files(x86)" or "Program Files" directory so that all profiles on the computer will use the same OneDrive.exe binary.
Benefits of the new per-machine sync app:
- Enable automatic transitioning from the previous OneDrive sync app (Groove.exe) to the new OneDrive sync app (OneDrive.exe).
- Automatic conversion from per-user to per-machine.
- Automatically update a new version as and when it becomes available.
Steps to deploy:
- Download OneDriveSetup.exe.
- Run "OneDriveSetup.exe/allusers" from a command prompt window or by using
Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager. Once this is done, the sync app will be installed under the "Program Files (x86)\Microsoft OneDrive" directory. When setup completes, OneDrive will start. If accounts had been added on the computer, they'll be migrated automatically.
