In order to transition users off of the previous OneDrive for Business sync app (Groove.exe) and force them to sync with the new OneDrive sync app (OneDrive.exe), you must be a global or SharePoint admin.
So, what happens when users have synced files using the old OneDrive sync app sign in to the new OneDrive for Business sync app?
- The previous sync app stops syncing and the new sync app takes over the process of syncing the library. In case, the new sync app cannot sync files, the old sync app continues syncing the library.
- If the previous sync app doesn't have to sync any library, it stops running and removes itself from automatic startup.
