While Microsoft Teams offers a seamless user experience on most web browsers, some browsers such as Internet Explorer 11, Safari, and Firefox, support the Microsoft Teams web app but don't support some of the Teams calling and meeting features. To overcome these hiccups, Teams allows users to receive the audio through a PSTN connection. When an unsupported browser is detected, it automatically displays a message explaining the issue and session limitations. The message also suggests users to download the Teams desktop client for the complete Teams experience.
Following are the Teams limitations on unsupported browsers.
- Audio is available through a PSTN connection only, and users cannot use their microphone.
- Users cannot share their camera, or view the videos of other participants. Only image-based screen sharing is allowed.
- Users cannot share their screen, although they can see a screen that another meeting participant has shared.
- Users cannot take control during a screen sharing session.
- Users will not receive incoming call notifications.
- If the call is interrupted, the meeting will not automatically reconnect.
- Users cannot start meetings.
