OpManager MSP licensing

ManageEngine OpManager MSP is easy-to-use network and server management software designed to help managed service providers (MSPs). MSPs can gain complete visibility into the client's network and monitor critical metrics on all network devices. OpManager MSP also offers remote monitoring and scalability features, and is designed specifically for managed service providers at an accommodating price.

OpManager MSP's licensing model

OpManager MSP has a device-based licensing model, which depends on the number of devices to be monitored. In device-based licensing, pricing depends on all devices as a whole along with all the components of each device, such as interfaces, ports, disks, and performance metrics, which are included by default.

This is beneficial to the users since they don't have to purchase separate licenses to monitor interfaces, disk volume and other such components of a device. Now, let's look at a sample calculation that shows how OpManager MSP's licensing works.

Requirement to monitor 50 network devices

Each network device has 10 interfaces, and every device and interface has five performance metrics to be monitored.

Total number of devices: 50

Total number of interfaces: 10 x 50 = 500

Number of monitors (performance metrics for interfaces): 500 x 5 = 2,500

Number of monitors (performance metrics for devices): 50 x 5 = 250

Total number of monitors: 2,500 + 250 = 2,750

In OpManager MSP, you only need a license for the number of devices you want to monitor, and everything else -interfaces, ports, disks, and performance metrics, will be included in that license.

Add-ons

If the devices purchased in the license pack are exhausted, then additional components such as access points and storage devices can be purchased individually as add-ons. In addition, failover, IP SLA monitors, and Network Configuration Monitor can all be purchased separately as add-ons.

Failover add-on

OpManager MSP's failover add-on ensures 24/7 monitoring of network environments, and maintains a secondary copy of the database that is ready to switch to primary mode at anytime, in case of an unexpected failure.

OpManager MSP's standby secondary server recognizes and continuously checks the availability of the primary server. During any abnormal downtime of the primary server, OpManager automatically switches over to the standby server. When the primary server recovers, the standby server exchanges the roles swiftly and fails back, ensuring high availability.

Network Configuration Manager add-on

OpManager MSP's Network Configuration Manager add-on seamlessly integrates the configuration management and network change features with OpManager MSP's essential troubleshooting and performance monitoring features.

Centralize network management with the Network Configuration Manager add-on for OpManager MSP. From a single console, you can monitor network performance, identify performance issues, and take absolute control to configure devices. With this add-on, you can troubleshoot issues arising due to faulty configurations and get end-to-end network visibility.

Note: By default, 2 users are provided with the 50 device license. If more users are required, they can be purchased as add-ons.

Frequently asked questions

1) When compared to other vendors in the market, how is OpManager MSP's pricing unique or affordable?

OpManager MSP offers a device-based license model that helps you monitor any number of interfaces and performance metrics in a device. Most other vendors in the market follow either element-based or sensor-based licensing models.

Let's say, there is a requirement to monitor 50 network devices, every network device has 10 interfaces, and each device and interface has five performance metrics to be monitored. In OpManager MSP, you just need a license for 50 devices, and the interfaces and monitors of those devices will be included within that license.

2) Does OpManager MSP offer any unlimited license similar to other vendors?

OpManager MSP does not offer unlimited packs. But any number of interfaces, disks, ports, etc. in a device can be monitored with a license purchased for that device. Even though other vendors offer unlimited licenses, they require licenses be purchased for interfaces, which can add up quickly.

3)Is additional software required while purchasing a license in OpManager?

OpManager MSP comes with a free built-in PostgreSQL database (DB). This helps to scale more devices than the SQL express DB, and no third-party software is required.

4) What are devices in OpManager MSP?

Routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, wireless LAN controllers, servers, VMs, printers, storage devices, and anything with an IP address that is connected to the network is considered as a devices in OpManager MSP.

5) Right now, I am using a 100 device pack, so if I upgrade to a 250 device pack, should I pay for the entire pack or just the difference?

While upgrading from one pack to another, users are required to pay just the difference. It is not required to pay the entire price.

6) What is the AMS cost and is it published?

OpManager MSP follows a transparent pricing policy where the perpetual cost and annual maintenance and support (AMS) cost is publicly displayed, whereas some vendors do not publicly disclose their AMS. We charge 20% of the license cost as the AMS.
