AdventNet enhances market leading AdventNet SNMP API with EJB support

San Jose, CA - September 26, 2000

AdventNet Inc., the Internet Management Infrastructure CompanyTM and the leading provider of next-generation network management software based on the Web and Java technologies, today announced the availability of AdventNet SNMP API Release 3.1. This release provides a number of advanced features, including Enterprise Java Beans (EJB) components based on the EJB standard.

EJB support in AdventNet SNMP API 3.1 enables scalable management applications that leverage the benefits of the 3-tier Application Server architecture. These architectures are capable of supporting a very large number of users, load-balancing, fail-over, transactions and other high-end capabilities. "AdventNet SNMP brings the power of advanced Internet technologies to network management products and solutions," said Sridhar Vembu, Chief Evangelist at AdventNet. "It underscores our commitment to provide products that deliver substantial productivity gains, and powerful new technologies, to network management solution providers," he added.

In addition to EJB support, Release 3.1

  • Empowers developers to run SNMP over different transport protocols. This flexibility has been made possible by designing a protocol-independent SNMP transport provider framework
  • Enables flexible applet and remote communication by incorporating a new protocol-independent communication framework
  • Supports development of native applications for users of GNU compiler for Java (GCJ)
  • Provides a number of other feature enhancements and usability improvements.

With the addition of EJB support and other enhancements, AdventNet SNMP API Release 3.1 continues its leadership as the most comprehensive Java based SNMP development environment available. The AdventNet SNMP API supports:

  • Both server-side and GUI (stand-alone as well as Java applet) development with all flavors (SNMPv1, v2c and v3) of the SNMP protocol
  • CORBA, RMI and HTTP protocols for building distributed management systems and firewall tunneling of SNMP traffic.
Since its introduction in 1996, AdventNet SNMP API has set the standard in enabling Java developers develop scalable, robust network management applications.
