AdventNet Upgrades WiFi Manager, Adds Wireless Switch Management Functionalities

New release provides easy single console management of fat and thin access points, enhanced support for Netgear, Ericsson and Symbol devices.

Pleasanton, California, Nov. 09, 2006

AdventNet Inc., a pioneer and leader in cost-effective network management software, today announced support for wireless switches, thin/dumb access points with the release of version 5.0 of ManageEngine WiFi Manager. The new version enables enterprises to monitor, configure, secure and manage a heterogeneous network with both fat/stand-alone access points as well as wireless switches – all from a single console.

ManageEngine WiFi Manager is an enterprise-class, vendor-neutral software for centralized management, monitoring and security of Wireless LANs. It supports hardware from leading wireless vendors including Cisco, Symbol, D-Link, Netgear, Procurve by HP, Proxim, SMC, Nomadix and many more. WiFi Manager enhances the availability and security of WLANs by continuously monitoring the network as well as the airspace. WiFi Manager can detect almost all major wireless threats including rogue attacks, intrusions, sniffers, DoS attacks, and vulnerabilities.

Bryan Dearlove, Network Analyst at Guelph General Hospital, Ontario, Canada and a customer of WiFi Manager said, “WiFi Manager allows us to monitor, manage and report on all aspects of our wireless systems. We monitor our systems, alerting us to errors or security breaches. We manage our systems through WiFi Manager by changing settings and updating firmware whenever required. Professional reports are created and given to management on any aspect required. This system does everything we require and then some in an easy to use web framework”, he added.

WiFi Manager 5.0 eliminates that issue by providing a single point solution that can manage all access points. Currently, WiFi Manager has added support for D-Link and Trapeze wireless switches. AdventNet plans to add support for more models of wireless switches in the future. WiFi Manager currently supports more than eighty different models of fat access points.

“We want to give our customers an easy, yet powerful solution that is also economical. We understand their needs and the release of WiFi Manager 5.0 just confirms our commitment to that goal”, says Sivaramakrishnan, WiFi Manager's Product Manager and Lead Architect.

Other features in the WiFi Manager 5.0 includes:

  • Added support for User Based Views. Network managers can assign access to different devices and resources to different users. Only users who have access to the device can view & manage them.
  • Enhanced support for access points from Symbol, Ericsson and Netgear.
  • Enhanced Notification Profiles to allow users to select devices for which notification is needed.
  • Overall enhancements in the UI to facilitate better usability.
  • Support for Skins. Now you can switch the look & feel of the WiFi Manager web-client.
  • Clean up mobile user information from database with custom interval.
