Overview

File analysis focuses on optimizing file storage and examining file security. Now, users can efficiently manage file security and storage using detailed insights gathered via predefined and customized reports.

Note: Installing the agent is mandatory to use file analysis.

  • For new ADAudit Plus users, file analysis will function as expected with full capabilities.
  • For existing ADAudit Plus users, a product upgrade is required to utilize file analysis to its fullest extent. Click here to upgrade the service pack. Starting from build 8600, file analysis will transition from its beta version to the standard version.

Supported platforms

The ADAudit Plus File Analysis agent supports Windows file servers running Windows Server 2008 R2 or later and requires .NET Framework version 4.5 or higher.

Notes:
  • Windows Server 2012 and later include .NET Framework 4.5 or higher by default, so you can proceed directly with the agent installation. If you are using any of these operating systems, you can proceed directly to the agent installation steps.
  • For older Windows versions such as Windows Server 2008 R2 or 2008, ensure that .NET Framework version 4.5 or higher is installed before continuing. Click here to proceed with its upgrade.

Minimum privileges

ADAudit Plus begins analyzing files once domain credentials are provided and the ADAudit Plus agent is installed during the Windows file server configuration.

However, if you prefer not to use Domain Admin credentials, you can set up a service account with the minimum required privileges by following the steps below:

Note: The minimum privileges listed below prevent ADAudit Plus from automatically installing the agent on target computers. To manually install, update, or uninstall the agent, refer to the Agent Document.

After creating a dedicated user account for ADAudit Plus, follow the steps below:

  1. Grant Full Control over the product installation folder.

ADAudit Plus requires Full Control permission over the product installation folder to write to the database.

    • Log in to the computer where ADAudit Plus is installed using Domain Admin privileges.
    • Navigate to the installation folder; right-click Properties > Security > Edit, add the ADAudit Plus user, and assign Full Control permission.
  2. Ensure that the Local System Account has Read access to all files to be monitored.

By default, the Local System Account has Full Control permissions. However, for File Analysis, only Read permissions are required. If you wish to update the default permissions, ensure that the Local System Account retains Read access over all the files that need to be monitored on the file server.
