Event ID 4885 – The Audit Filter For Certificate Services Changed

If the auditing tab of the Certification Authority's 'Properties' dialog is modified, event ID 4885 is logged by Windows. This auditing tab decides which of the CA related events are reported in the security log. The logging of this event is also governed by the audit filter.

This log has the following information:

  • Filter: A bitwise representation of the check boxes in the audit tab.

Why does event ID 4885 need to be monitored?

As this action controls the logging of other possibly critical security events, and such a change could indicate anomalous or malicious activity, it is better to monitor event 4885.
