How to monitor resource attribute definitions?
The basic properties of resource attributes, such as what it means for a resource to be defined as “high business value" are defined by resource attribute definitions. In AD DS, the Resource Properties containers store resource attribute definitions. When modifications are made to these definitions, there are significant modifications in the protections that govern a resource, even though the resource attributes applied to the resource remain untouched. Modifications can be monitored just like any other object in AD DS.
Check Monitor the resource attributes on files and folders for information on monitoring changes to the resource attributes that apply to files.
Follow the steps below to monitor changes to resource attributes:
- Login to your domain controller as the domain administrator.
- Go to Server Manager > Tools > Group Policy Management.
- Then, right-click the Group Policy Object. Go to the default domain controller, and then click Edit.
- Double-click Computer Configuration. Then go to Security Settings > Advanced Audit Policy Configuration > System Audit Policies > DS Access > Audit directory service changes.
- Navigate to the Configure the following audit events check box, check the boxes for Success and Failure auditing, and then click OK.
- Now, go to the Active Directory Administrative Center. Then, under Dynamic Access Control, right-click Resource Properties, and then go to Properties.
- Go to Security > Advanced > Advanced Security Settings > Auditing.
- Add a security auditing setting for the container by clicking Add.
You can track this event in Event Viewer by searching for the event ID 5137 in Windows logs > Security.
