Oracle Cloud NAT Gateway Monitoring

Overview

Oracle Cloud NAT Gateway is a managed networking component within Oracle Cloud Infrastructure that enables private instances - those without public IP addresses - to initiate outbound connections to the internet or other OCI services, while preventing unsolicited inbound connections from the internet. Applications Manager's Oracle Cloud NAT Gateway monitor provides complete visibility into data transfer rates, packet handling, connection tracking, and availability metrics for your NAT gateways, helping you ensure optimal network performance and quickly identify potential bottlenecks.

Monitored Parameters

Go to the Monitors Category View by clicking the Monitors tab. Click on the NAT Gateways available under Oracle Cloud in the Cloud Apps section. Displayed is the Oracle Cloud NAT Gateway bulk configuration view distributed into three tabs:

  • Availability tab gives the availability history for the past 24 hours or 30 days.
  • Performance tab gives the health status and events for the past 24 hours or 30 days.
  • List view enables you to perform bulk admin configurations.

Clicking a monitor from the list will take you to the Oracle Cloud NAT Gateway dashboard, which consists of two tabs:

Total Outgoing PacketsThe total packets sent from the NAT gateway to OCI resources.
Total PacketsThe total packets (incoming and outgoing) processed by the NAT gateway.
PACKET DROPS
Throttled Packet DropsThe total packets dropped due to throttling at the NAT gateway.
Port Exhaustion Packet DropsThe total packets dropped due to NAT port exhaustion.
Other Packet DropsThe total packets dropped for other reasons such as closed TCP connections, connections not established, packet size exceeding the MTU, or destination unreachable.
Total Packet DropsThe total packet drops across all categories at the NAT gateway.
PACKET DROP RATE
Packet Drop RateThe percentage of packets dropped versus total packets processed by the NAT gateway (in %).
CONNECTIONS
Established ConnectionsThe total connections established through the NAT gateway.
Closed ConnectionsThe total connections via the NAT gateway closed by the internet host.
Timed Out ConnectionsThe total connections closed by the NAT gateway due to idle timeout.
