Configuring and Viewing Alarms
Alarms can be configured through the Configure Alarms screen. This provides an overview of all the attributes of the SQL Server, and the thresholds and actions associated with the attribute. The purpose of Global Alarm Configuration is that you can associate thresholds and actions directly rather than from the individual SQL Server screen. Additionally, you can view all the thresholds and actions associated with the attributes of a SQL Server in a single screen.
You have three options to Configure Alarms:
1. Monitor: Select a monitor from the drop down and this will configure the alarms to those individual monitors.
2. SQL Group: This option enlists the various monitor groups you have already created. Select the ones you want to configure the alarms to. This will apply the alarms to all the monitors in that group.
Additionally, you have two action types in this category:
Individual - This option will help you configure alarms for monitors within the specified monitor group. Scroll down the screen and you can associate thresholds for attributes which will be automatically applied to that selected monitor.
Template - This option will help you configure alarms for attributes and thus you can create a template specific to each attribute which will be automatically applied to any monitor added to that specific group in the future.
3. SQL Servers: This option will enlist the various attributes to which alarms can be configured, which will be applied to any SQL Server (monitor) added to the product in the future.
You can perform the following functions in the screen:
You can create and associate a threshold for an attribute by clicking 'Associate' link. It opens the
'Configure Alarms' page, herein you can create a new threshold or apply an existing threshold for the
Note: By selecting 'Apply to Selected Monitors', the threshold for this attribute is applied to selected / all SQL Servers (monitors). For eg., say you are associating a threshold for Response time of a particular SQL Server, by selecting 'Apply to Selected Monitors', the threshold for response time can be applied to all SQL Servers or to a select number of SQL Servers.
For more information, refer to the Associating Threshold and Action with Attributes section.
You can edit already existing thresholds by clicking on the threshold name.
Note: You can also view the Global Alarm Configuration screen by clicking 'Configure Alarms' under Admin tab.
