Patch Installation Failure Error 2145124343

A patch installation can show these messages:

  • Error Code: 2145124343
  • Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install.
  • Another conflicting operation was in progress. Some operations such as installation cannot be performed twice simultaneously.
  • The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

The error occurs in these situations:

  • Windows is already installing or updating another component.
  • Two installations run at the same time. Windows does not allow that.
  • Another application is using a file that the update needs.

Resolution

Use one of these methods:

Method 1: Restart the computer

Restart the computer. Then install the patch again. The restart clears a stuck installation, or a file that another application is using.

Method 2: Use the Patch Manager Plus cleanup patch for Windows Update store issues

This method repairs Windows Update files that are corrupt or stuck.

Open the Supported Patches view. Deploy patch 105979 to the failed computers. After deployment, restart the computer and install the failed patch again.

The product does not set how long Windows can show the update restart screen. Do not turn off the computer as a product recovery step while Windows reports that updates are underway.

Method 3: Stop Windows Installer when the error continues

Open Task Manager and select the Details tab. Find msiexec.exe and wusa.exe. End those tasks if they are running. Open Services and stop the Windows Installer service if it is running.

If the error continues, download the log file and contact support.
