Switch Power over Ethernet (PoE) Monitoring

ManageEngine OpUtils enables Power over Ethernet (PoE) monitoring for PoE-enabled network devices using SNMP. The PoE Monitoring feature provides real-time visibility into power availability, power consumption, and maximum power capacity at the switch and port levels.

With this feature, you can monitor the power consumption of switches and ports to assess power usage and optimize your network infrastructure.

How to discover PoE-enabled switches

In OpUtils, once the switches are discovered using their OIDs, their PoE status is automatically retrieved and displayed as Active or Inactive.

To view the PoE status, go to Switch Port Mapper. In the Switch Tree View, all discovered devices are displayed. In the PoE Status column, you can view whether a switch is PoE-enabled.

Once the switches are discovered and their PoE status is available, you can view the Available Power, Consumed Power, and Maximum Power for the PoE-enabled switches from the OpUtils interface.

  • Click on a switchand you will be directed to the Device Snapshot page..
  • Under Device Summary, you can view the Consumed Power, Available Power, and Maximum Power of the switch in watts.
  • The power distribution can also be seen in thedonut view.

To view power consumption at the port level:

  • Click on Ports and in the Ports List page, along with other metrics, you can view the maximum power, consumed power and available power.

  • In the Port Snapshot page, you can view the power usage under Port Details

Viewing PoE-enabled switches in the dashboard

In the OpUtils Dashboard, you can add the Top 10 Power-Consuming Switches widget to get an overview of the power consumed by switches.
