Back up and Restore



    In Windows

     

    Follow the steps given below to take a back up of the ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus - MSP data:

    1. Click Start -> Programs -> ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus - MSP5 -> Backup Data. A back up of the data and the file attachments that have been added to the application will be created.

    The back up file will be created in the <ServiceDesk>\backup directory. The file name for the back up file will be of the pattern BackUp_monthdate_year_hr_min.data. An example of the back up file name: BackUp_May20_2005_23_15.data

     

    To restore the back up data

    1. Go to <ServiceDesk>\bin directory.

    2. Execute the file restoreData.bat at command prompt as shown below:

      restoreData.bat <backup file name>

    The back up file name has to be the .data file from which you wish to restore the data. This will restore the data from the back up file.


    Backup Process in Windows without file attachments or Trimmed backup




    A trimmed backup takes the database backup without file attachments, inline images, custom, and archive folders.

    • From command prompt, go to <ServiceDesk>\bin directory and execute trimmedBackupData.bat command to start the database back up.


    C:\ManageEngine\ServiceDesk\bin\trimmedBackupData.bat

    • Once the back up is complete, a backup file with .data extension is placed in the Trimmed Backup folder under the ServiceDesk Plus MSP Home directory.

    • The backup file contains information such as the Build number of ServiceDesk Plus MSP, and date and time when the back up was performed. Here is the format of the backup file.

backup_ servicedesk_ [build number] _database_month _date _ year _ hour _minutes.

    Note: The ServiceDesk Plus - MSP server needs to be shut down before you restore the data.

     

    In Linux

     

    Follow the steps given below to take a back up of the ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus - MSP data:

    1. Go to <ServiceDesk>/bin directory.

    2. Execute the backUpData.sh file as given below:

      $ sh backUpData.sh
