What is meant by "Track as Asset" option that is available when a new CI Type is created?
"Track as Asset" option lets you track CIs - under the newly configured CI type - as Assets. When this option is enabled, the added Configuration Item Type will also get listed as Product Type under Admin Tab - and when assets are added to this newly created Product Type, they'll in turn get reflected as CIs in CMDB.
"Track as Asset" option helps you classify the roles for Asset and CMDB manager - the asset module administrator will work on procuring assets and adding it to database, while the CMDB administrator will work on updating relationships for them.
I am unable to add/scan the machine though I have EnableCMDB role assigned?
EnableCMDB role lets you "view assets/CIs" and "create relationships" among them within the CMDB module. It does not support adding/scanning of Assets. To do so, you have to enable "ADD" option under Asset Module in the role to be assigned to the technician.
I have given full control to asset module for a technician but still he is unable to view CMDB tab. Why?
The role which will enable CMDB tab for the technician is the EnableCMDB role.
Hence even though full control to Asset module is provided, EnableCMDB role has to be assigned to the technician to let him view the CMDB tab.
