Configure Mail Server
Mail servers are configured to deliver emails to the intended recipients. For example, when you set up email notifications for alarms, you must configure the mail server through which the emails are sent. The mail server can be configured using two connection protocols, and you can choose either one based on your requirements.
Configuring the Mail Server using SMTP protocol
- In the Applications Manager console, navigate to Settings → Product Settings → Mail and SMS server Settings and proceed to Configure Mail Server.
- Select the SMTP Connection Protocol.
- Choose the Authentication Type.
For the Basic Authentication type:
- Provide the SMTP Server name and the SMTP Server Port number.
- Provide the Email Address. It will be used as the Sender address when configuring actions.
- Provide the Username and Password, if the SMTP server requires authentication details (Select the checkbox).
For the OAuth Authentication type:
- TLS Authentication Enabled – Select this option to enable TLS support for secure mail communication.
- Secure Connection (SSL) Enabled– Select this option to enable SSL support for secure mail communication.
Note: Previously, the TLS and SSL options were available as checkboxes.
From Applications Manager v177400, these options presented as radio buttons, which means you can select only one option at a time (either TLS or SSL).
- If only TLS was enabled, TLS will remain selected after the upgrade.
- If only SSL was enabled, SSL will remain selected after the upgrade.
- If both were enabled, TLS will be retained by default (you can switch to SSL manually if required).
- If the chosen mail server is down for some reason, you have an option to configure a Secondary Mail Server that functions as a backup mail server. Check the Configure Secondary Mail Server checkbox and configure it by following the same steps given above.
- When configuring Mail Server in the Enterprise edition, you can allow the mail server configuration performed in the Central server to propagate to all your Probe Servers. To enable this, check the Use same mail settings for all probe servers checkbox.
- You can click on the Test Connectivity button to verify if all the details entered are correct and if Applications Manager is able to send an e-mail using the details given.
- Click Save to save the configuration.
Once the SMTP server is configured, all emails will be sent through it.
Note: To verify SMTP access for Gmail from your Applications Manager installed system, you will need to run a telnet test, which will check that your computer can contact Gmail SMTP servers. Enter telnet smtp.gmail.com 465 (or 587) and check for any response. In case you fail to receive a response, we recommend contacting your system administrator to get the access.
Configuring the Mail Server using EWS (Exchange Web Services) protocol
- In the Applications Manager console, navigate to Settings → Product Settings → Mail and SMS server Settings and proceed to Configure Mail Server.
- Choose EWS Connection Protocol.
- Choose OAuth Authentication Type.
- Provide the Connect URL.
- Provide the Email Address. It will be used as the Sender address when configuring actions.
- Choose the OAuth Provider.
Note: Click here for steps to configure OAuth for EWS Server.
- If the chosen mail server is down for some reason, you have an option to configure a Secondary Mail Server that functions as a backup mail server. Check the Configure Secondary Mail Server checkbox and configure it by following the same steps given above.
- You can click on the Test Connectivity button to verify if all the details entered are correct and if Applications Manager is able to send an e-mail using the details given.
- Click Save to save the configuration.
Once the EWS server is configured, all emails will be sent through it.
Configuring the Mail Server in APM Plugin
In APM Plugin, Mail server configuration is allowed only from OPM. This configuration will be synced to APM Plugin. Users can configure Mail server configuration using both Basic and OAuth authentication. If OAuth is chosen in OPM, then the selected OAuth provider will also be synced from OPM to the APM Plugin.
Limitations:
- The OAuth provider will be synced from OpManager to Applications Manager Plugin only if the OpManager Mail Server uses the OAuth Provider.
- If the user deletes the OAuth Provider or disassociates the OAuth Provider from the OpManager Mail server, the OAuth provider will not be deleted in APM Plugin.
