Configuring and Managing Alerts

DEX Alerts help IT teams proactively detect and resolve device and user experience issues before they are reported by end users. By continuously monitoring key system metrics, Alerts notify IT teams when defined thresholds are breached, enabling faster investigation and remediation.

Alerts are especially useful for monitoring critical devices, such as VIP user systems or business-critical devices, where issues can directly affect productivity and business outcomes.

With DEX Alerts, IT teams can:

  • Proactively detect user-impacting issues across the organization or on selected critical devices
  • Prioritize alerts based on severity, device group, location, department, or OS
  • Analyze root cause using collected telemetry and alert details
  • Remediate issues by triggering workflows on impacted devices

How Alerts Work

The Alerts lifecycle runs from configuration to alert generation:

  • Create an Alert Profile to define which metrics to monitor and when alerts should trigger.
  • Deploy the Alert Profile to the required devices.
  • The agent continuously monitors the configured metrics on endpoints.
  • When a threshold is breached, an alert is generated.
  • Alerts are displayed as:
    • Individual Alerts — triggered when a single device reports an alert.
    • Grouped Alerts — triggered when a defined number of devices report the same alert.

Alert Profile Creation

An Alert Profile defines the monitoring rules and conditions for generating alerts. To create one:

  • Navigate to DEX > Alerts.
  • Open the Alert Profiles tab.
  • Click Create Alert Profile.
  • Enter a Name and Description. The profile name is used when generating alerts.
  • Select the Metrics to monitor from the supported list.
  • Configure Alert Conditions by defining threshold values for the selected metric.
  • Choose an Alert Category:
    • Individual Alerts — for device-level monitoring.
    • Grouped Alerts — for network or environment-level monitoring.
  • Set the Priority: Critical, High, Medium, or Low.
  • Configure:
    • Monitoring Interval — how frequently the metric is evaluated.
    • Cool-off Period — prevents alert flooding by limiting repeated alerts.
  • (Optional) Enable Notifications, add recipient email addresses, and customize the alert notification content if required.
  • Click Create Alert Profile to save.

Deploy an Alert Profile

Alert Profiles act as templates and must be deployed to devices to start monitoring. You can deploy an Alert Profile from two places, and both create the same deployment:

  • From the alert profile’s own Deployment tab — convenient when you are already working on that profile.
  • From the Deployments module — convenient when you are setting up several deployments together.

Alert Profiles use Immediate deployment only: once deployed, all applicable devices receive the profile and begin monitoring instantly. For full details on targeting and monitoring, see Deployments.

Deploy from the Alert Profile’s Deployment Tab

  • Open the alert profile, then select the Deployment tab.
  • Click Deploy Now (or Create Deployment if the profile is already deployed).
  • Enter a Deployment Name and an optional description.
  • Select Custom Groups to target devices. Use the Include and Exclude options for finer targeting.
  • Click Deploy Now to start monitoring immediately.

Deploy from the Deployments Module

Set the Type to Alert Profiles when creating the deployment. For the full procedure, see Creating a Deployment.

Generated Alerts View

Once an Alert Profile is deployed, the DEX agent receives the profile and begins monitoring instantly. Alerts are generated when thresholds are met. To view alerts:

  • Navigate to DEX > Alerts.
  • Both Individual and Grouped Alerts are displayed in the same view.
  • Click an alert to open the Alert Details page.

The Alert Details view provides:

  • Impacted devices
  • Alert generation time
  • Alert profile information

FAQ

What metrics are offered in an Alert Profile?
CPU Usage, Memory Usage, Wi-Fi Signal Strength, Free Disk Space, and Free Disk Space (OS Drive) metrics are supported as part of an Alert Profile.
How are alert categories triggered in the console?

The console supports two alert categories: Individual Alerts and Grouped Alerts.

  • Individual Alerts: When any deployed device reports an alert, it is immediately shown in the Alerts view. If multiple devices meet the threshold on the same day, they are grouped under the same alert. A new alert is generated on the next day.
  • Grouped Alerts: When a device reports an alert, it is not shown immediately in the Alerts view. The alert appears only when the number of reported devices meets the configured device count in the Alert Profile. Additional device alerts are grouped under the existing alert.
What actions are supported for Alerts?
Immediate email notification is supported as an action when an alert is triggered.
How frequently does the agent monitor alert conditions?
Monitoring frequency is controlled by the Monitoring Interval configured in the Alert Profile and is enforced at the agent level. When a device meets the alert threshold, the alert is immediately sent to the server and displayed in the Alerts view based on the configured alert category.
What deployment type is used for Alert Profile deployment?
Alert Profiles use immediate deployment. Once deployment is triggered, all applicable devices receive the profile configuration instantly and start monitoring.
When an Alert Profile is used in multiple deployments, how are alerts generated?
For each Alert Profile, a single alert entry is maintained in the Alerts view, providing a consistent view even when the profile is deployed through multiple deployments.
How can I integrate Alerts with third-party solutions such as ITSM?
ITSM solutions support email-based ticket creation. By enabling email notifications in the Alert Profile, alerts can automatically generate ITSM tickets and streamline IT support workflows.
