Perform Amazon EC2 Instance Action

Introduction:

This section is common to all the editions of IT360 - Professional Edition, Enterprise Edition [Probes only] and MSP Edition [Probes only].

This action can be used to start/stop/restart Amazon EC2 instances, in the event of an Alarm.

Steps to Create an Amazon EC2 instance:

To create an Amazon EC2 instance action, follow the steps given below. Refer the screenshots given, for better understanding;

  1. Go to 'Admin --> Servers & Applications' and click 'Actions'.

  2. Click the Create Amazon EC2 Instance Action link, under the heading: Amazon EC2 Instance Action(s). The Create Action : Amazon EC2 Instance Action page is diplayed.

  1. Enter the Display Name of the action.

  2. Choose the Action Type to be performed in the event of an alarm. You can choose either Start Instances, Stop Instances, or Restart Instances option.

  3. Use the Select Target EC2 Instance option to associate the action to EC2 instance(s). There are two ways of selecting the target instance(s);

    1. All EC2 Instances in the selected monitor group: This triggers the action for all the instances, present in the selected monitor group.

    2. Specific EC2 Instance: This triggers the action for the selected EC2 instance alone.

  4. You can use the Notify after action executes option, to receive an email notification, once the action is successfully executed. You can either select an existing email address, or define a new email addresses, by using the New Action option.
  1. Click the Create Action button, to finish creating the Amazon EC2 Instance action. This will list the action name and its details, along with the other actions configured, in the 'View Actions' page.

Note: You can perform the below tasks from the 'View Actions' page;

  1. You can edit the Amazon EC2 instance action created, by clicking the icon.

  2. You can click Add New, for creating more Amazon EC2 Instance actions.

  3. After creating the Amazon EC2 Instance action, you can test its execution by clicking the Execute icon of that action.

  4. You can delete the action, by clicking the Delete link. (After selecting the respective action's check box).
