Application Mapping, Application Group, DSCP Mapping and DSCP Grouping

This section is common to all the editions of IT360 - Professional Edition, Enterprise Edition (Probes only) and MSP Edition (Probes only).

From the Application / QoS Maps section, you can configure the folllowing:

  1. Applications Mapping

  2. DSCP Mapping

  3. Top Sites

1. Application Mapping

The Application Mapping option lets you configure the applications identified by IT360. You can add new applications, modify existing ones, or delete them. Please see the Additional Notes on Application Mapping section to understand this feature more clearly. Also it is possible to associate an IP address with an application.

1.1 Steps to Access Application Mapping Wizard

  1. Login to IT360 console with the Username and Password of an Admin user.

  2. Click the Admin tab in the header pane.

  3. Click Application / QoS Maps under Monitoring Configuration.

  4. By default, the Application Mapping tab will be selected, else click that tab.

Now, from the Application Mapping wizard displayed, you can do the following tasks:

1.1.1 Adding an Application

Follow the steps below to add a new application:

  1. Click the Add button in the Application Mapping wizard (screenshot above). In the window that opens up, enter the following details:

  2. Enter the Port number of the new application. To enter a port range, separate the start and end points of the range with a hyphen; e.g., 1400-1700.

  3. Choose the Protocol from the list of protocols

  4. Choose one of the options from IP Address / IP Network / IP Range. Depending on what you opt a set of fields are enabled and should be filled.

  1. The Application Name has to be entered finally by which the IP address is associated with an application.

  2. Once you are done, click the Save button to save your changes.

Ensure that the combination of Port number and Protocol is unique. If not, the older application mapping will be deleted.

1.1.2 Modifying an Application

  1. Select an application that needs update from the Application Mapping wizard (screenshot above).

  2. Click the Modify button. Edit its properties as required in the Modify Application Mapping window that opens up.

  3. Click Save once done.
Note: You can only change the name of the application. If you need to change the port or the protocol, you have to delete the application, and add it as a new application.

1.1.3 Deleting an Application

  1. Select an application that needs update from the Application Mapping wizard (screenshot above).

  2. Click the Delete button. In the confirmation window displayed, click OK. Now, the application will be deleted.

The application is permanently deleted, the corresponding port is freed, and can be assigned to another application.

1.1.4 Additional Notes on Application Mapping

The sequence in which the mappings are checked is as follows:

  1. Application mapping with specific IP address / IP Range / IP Network is matched.
  2. Application mapping with no IP address and single port number / port range.

2. DSCP Mapping

The DiffServ model for DSCP Mapping was developed to differentiate IP traffic so that the traffic's relative priority could be determined on a per-hop basis. Using DSCP Mapping you can name the DiffServ code points and monitor their traffic.

2.1 Steps to Access DSCP Mapping Wizard

  1. Login to IT360 console with the Username and Password of an Admin user.

  2. Click the Admin tab in the header pane.

  3. Click Application / QoS Maps under Monitoring Configuration.

  4. Click the DSCP Mapping tab.

Now, from the DSCP Mapping wizard displayed, you can do the following tasks:

2.1.1 Adding a new DSCP Mapping

  1. Click the Add button in the DSCP Mapping wizard (screenshot above). In the window that opens up, enter the following details:

  2. Enter the Group Name and the Code Point ( a six-digit Binary Number). For Example: Data Centre devices - 001001.

  3. Click the Add button to add this mapping.

2.2.2 Modifying a DSCP Mapping

It is not possible to modify a DSCP Mapping.

2.2.3 Deleting a DSCP Mapping

  1. Select the DSCP Mapping (the combination of QoS Group Name and Code Points), you want to delete, from the DSCP Mapping wizard (screenshot above).

  2. Click the Delete button.

  3. In the confirmation window displayed, click OK. Now, the mapping will be deleted.

3. Top Sites

The Top Sites report displays the applications contributing to the maximum network traffic.The top sites option maps application to the resolved DNS names. Using this option you can now Add, Modify or Delete the pre-defined IP addresses and its corresponding application.

3.1 Steps to Access Top Sites Wizard

  1. Login to IT360 console with the Username and Password of an Admin user.

  2. Click the Admin tab in the header pane.

  3. Click Application / QoS Maps under Monitoring Configuration.

  4. Click the Top Sites tab.

Now, from the Top Sites wizard displayed, you can do the following tasks:

3.1.1 Adding a Top Site

To add a top site follow the steps given below:

  1. Click the Add button in the Top Sites wizard (screenshot above). In the window that opens up, enter the following details:

  2. Enter the Site Name.

  3. Choose one of the options from IP Address / IP Network / IP Range. Depending on what you opt a set of fields are enabled and should be filled.

  1. The Application Name has to be entered finally by which the IP address is associated with an application.

  2. Once you are done, click the Save button to save your changes.

3.1.2 Modifying a Top Site

To Modify a top site follow the steps given below:

  1. Select a Site that needs update from the Top Sites wizard (screenshot above).

  2. Click the Modify button. In the Edit window displayed, modify the Site Name.

  3. Click Save.

Now the site name has been succesfully changed.

3.1.3 Deleting a Top Site

To Delete a top site follow the steps given below:

  1. Select the Site that you want to modify from the Top Sites wizard.

  2. Click Delete.

In the confirmation window displayed, click OK. Now, the site will be permanently deleted.
