Active Directory Distribution List Report

Groups, in Windows Active Directory or Microsoft Exchange, could be Distribution Groups or Security Groups. Distribution Lists or Distribution Groups enable communicati to multiple users in a faster, easy manner. Managing Distribution Groups in Exchange 2003 / Exchange 2007 / Exchange 2010 is quite a tedious task.

At any given point of time, it is imperative for the administrators to

  • Get a complete list of all the distribution lists or distribution groups.
  • Export the distribution list members in the CSV, Excel (XLS), PDF, etc. in mass or bulk.
  • Know all the inactive distribution lists / inactive distribution groups.
  • Have an up-to-date list of all the non-members of distribution lists.
  • Know all users who are members of any distribution group(s) or their nested groups.
  • Modify the group attributes or the attributes of the distribution lists.
  • Add or remove members in distribution lists.
  • Update the distribution lists., etc.

Detailed Exchange Distribution List reports or Active Directory Distribution Group reports are vital for efficient management of distribution lists and also for effective cleanup of distribution lists.

It is tedious and difficult to query and extract distribution list reports using the native tools/scripts as it requires an in-depth knowledge and understanding of multiple domains viz., Windows Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange Server and also scripting.

With ADManager Plus you will find it surprisingly easy and quick to extract or generate all the required information about distribution lists or distribution groups, with pre-built reports like

All these distribution list based reports can also be exported in any of the available formats, as per the requirement, like, HTML, Excel, PDF or CSV.

And the best part is, all the distribution list reports can also be scheduled to be generated and sent to multiple users via email, at the specified time(s) in the required formats, like, Excel (xls), CSV, PDF or HTML..

Distribution Groups

Distribution Lists could be either internal distribution lists or external distribution lists and are more frequently used as mailing lists or used for creating email distribution lists.

This report lists down all the Distribution Groups in the Exchange Server and more importantly, for every distribution list, it also displays vital details like:

  • Distribution Group Name.
  • The corresponding members of distribution list, for each group.
  • Its nested distribution lists or nested distribution groups, etc.

Distribution List Members

This report lists all the users who are members of at least one distribution list or any of the nested groups of a distribution list. This report gives the following information about each user:

  • Display name
  • Full Name (of the user).
  • The distribution groups in which the user is a member of, etc.

Non-distribution List Members

This report lists all the users who are not members of or part of any distribution list, along with information like:

  • Full Name
  • Groups (non-distribution groups) in which the user is a member of, etc.

And this is not all; you can perform a variety of group management and group membership management activities like:

  • Single Active Directory group creation.
  • Create Active Directory groups in mass or bulk, using the CSV import option.
  • Add members to groups using CSV import feature.
