Distributed Network Monitoring with OpManager

Enterprise–class Scalability
The flexible central server⁄remote probe architecture enables the administrator to scale monitoring to tens of thousands of interfaces or switch ports. No matter how big the network or number of devices, by adding more probes, the central server can easily consolidate & report network health over large network environments. The Distributed Edition central server can scale to monitor upto 50,000 interfaces or switch ports.

Robust Probe–Central Server Communication Engine
A robust persistence mechanism ensures 0% data loss between the probe and central servers even when there is a connection loss between the servers. Communication between the central server and the remote probe is done through XML over HTTPS. This facilitates functioning of the remote probes even behind proxy servers and firewalls.

Site–based performance reporting
OpManager Distributed Edition provides an integrated and centralized network management solution for network resources distributed across the globe. The central server acts as a network operating console with site–based inventory on the device health and availability as well as providing a centralized, global view of the whole enterprise network.

Remote Site Monitoring & Management
The probe server deployed at each site performs all the network–facing functionalities like discovery, mapping, fault monitoring to report these to the central server located at the Operating Center⁄NOC⁄Datacenter. Ping and TraceRoute requests can also be executed in the probe from the central server to allow problem diagnosis and resolution at remote sites.

‘Smart’ upgrades of probe servers
Any service pack upgrades done on the central server are automatically pushed to the remote probe servers.

Fail–over Support
Configure two central servers, one of which can act as a fail–over server that collects data from the remote probes when the primary central server stops functioning.
