How to deploy Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010?

Description

This document will provide steps required to deploy Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 to multiple computers using the Software Deployment feature in Endpoint Central MSP.

Steps

To deploy Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 to multiple computers, follow the steps given below:

Note: Before proceeding with deployment, ensure that the computers to which you deploy MS Office 2010 meet the system requirements as prescribed by Microsoft: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee624351.aspx.

  1. Create a directory, say office2010, to store the required installable.
  2. Extract the contents of the EXE file

Note: If you are copying the contents from a CD, you can skip the steps below and copy the contents of the CD directly to the directory created in step 1.

    1. Select Start>Run
    2. Enter %temp%
    3. Click OK
    4. Delete all the unused files and folders
    5. Run the ProfessionalPlus-32.exe.
This will first extract the required files in the Temp directory before installing it. Once the extraction is complete, you will see the installation wizard.
    6. Select Start>Run
    7. Enter %temp%
    8. Click OK. You will now find a new folder with the extracted contents of Office 2010.
    9. Copy all the extracted contents, with the same directory structure, to the directory created in step 1.
    10. Exit the installation wizard
  3. Customize the Installation
    1. Download the office customization tool from the following URL and install it: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=64B837B6-0AA0-4C07-BC34-BEC3990A7956&displaylang=en

Note: When installing the customization tool, specify the directory that you have created in step 1. Three folders will be extracted for the customization tool—ADM, Admin, and ADMX.
    2. Open a command prompt
    3. Change directory to the directory where you have copied the installable.
    4. Enter setup.exe /admin
This opens the office customization tool from where you can specify the information about the license or company and change the outlook profiles.
    5. Select the display level as None
    6. Check the Suppress Modal checkbox
    7. Make the required customization settings
    8. Save the customized file. For example, you can give it the name custom.MSP

Note: The MSP file should also be saved in the same directory that you created in step 1.

  4. Create a zipped file. Follow the steps given below:
    1. From the Windows Explorer, navigate to the base folder where the installable files are located. For example, C:\Softwares\Office 2010\
    2. Select all the files using Ctrl+A
    3. Right-click and select 7-Zip
    4. Click Add to archive
    5. Give an appropriate name for the archive and save it with the extension .7z
  • Add the package, which you want to deploy to the computers in your network, to Endpoint Central MSP. Follow the steps given below:
    1. Click the Software Deployment tab
    2. Click Add Package
    3. Select the appropriate package type
    4. Specify a name for the application
    5. Select HTTP Path (URL)
    6. Upload the zipped file that you created in step 4
    7. Click Add More
    8. Upload 7za.exe located in <Desktop_Central_Install_Dir>/Desktop_Central_Server/bin directory.
    9. Specify the Installation Command with Switches/Arguments as the relative path. For example, setup.exe /config "ProPlus.WW\silent-install-config.xml"
    10. Select Run the Script before Installing Software, in the Advanced Options section
    11. Enter 7za.exe x -y "<filename.7z>" in the Script/Software name section, where <filename.7z> refers to the zip file name that you created in step 4. For example, 7za.exe x -y "office2010.7z"
    12. Click Add Package
  • Deploy the package to specific computers in your network. Follow the steps given below:
    1. Select the package that you added in step 2
    2. Click Install/Uninstall Software
    3. Create a configuration to install the software package
