How do I create a shortcut for a Web application on the desktops of all the client computers in my network?

Description

This document provides you with steps required to create a shortcut for a Web application on the desktops of all the client computers in your network. Shortcuts are links to documents, programs, files in a computer or Web addresses (for example, www.google.com).

Steps

You can create and access shortcuts in the following ways. The shortcut is created and accessed using:

  • Default browsers
  • Any browser of your choice

To create a shortcut for a Web application, on the desktops of all the client computers in your network, follow the steps given below:

  1. Click the Configurations tab
  2. In the Add Configuration section, click Configuration
  3. In the User Configurations section, click Shortcut
  4. Enter a name and description for the configuration
  5. In the Add Shortcut section, click Create
  6. Select Internet Shortcut
  7. Enter the following information:
    • Name of the shortcut
    • Target URL of the application that you want to create the shortcut for (for example, if you want to create a shortcut using your default browser (for example, Internet Explorer, enter the following argument 'http://supportcenter:#/' where # is the port number)
    • Location of the shortcut
  8. Select an appropriate icon for the shortcut

    Note: This is optional.

  9. Choose a target
  10. Enter required execution settings
  11. Click Deploy

You have created a shortcut to a Web application. This will run using your default browser.

To create a shortcut for a Web application using a browser other than your default browser, follow the steps given below:

  1. Click the Configurations tab
  2. In the Add Configuration section, click Configuration
  3. In the User Configurations section, click Shortcut
  4. Enter a name and description for the configuration
  5. In the Add Shortcut section, click Create
  6. Select Shortcut
  7. Enter the following:
    • Name for the shortcut
    • Name of the target application (For example, if you want to create the shortcut and you want to access it using Google Chrome, enter $userlocalappdata\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe. For example, C:\Documents and Settings\triptip\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe)

      Note: The browser you are using to create the shortcut with, should be installed in the location in each of the computers you want to create the shortcut in. If the location is not the same in specific computers, the shortcut will not work in those computers.

    • Required arguments (for example, if you want to access the support center enter http://supportcenter:#/' where # is the port number)
  8. Select a location for the shortcut
  9. Enter the name for a start-in folder
  10. Enter comments, if any, about the shortcut
  11. Select an icon file
  12. Select how you want to run the shortcut
  13. Choose a target
  14. Enter required execution settings
  15. Click Deploy

You have created a shortcut to a Web application. This will run using a browser of your choice (which can be a browser other than the default browser).

The shortcut will be created on the desktop of the client computer during the agent's 90-minute refresh cycle, during startup or during logon-whichever takes place earlier.
