Microsoft Azure Network Watcher Connection - An Overview

Microsoft Azure Network Watcher Connection is a feature within Azure Network Watcher that provides connectivity monitoring capabilities for resources deployed within Azure. The Network Watcher Connection feature allows users to monitor and diagnose network connectivity between Azure resources, such as virtual machines, application gateways, and load balancers.

Application Manager's Azure Network Watcher Connection Monitoring tool provides a comprehensive solution for monitoring and diagnosing connectivity within your Azure environment. This monitoring capability allows you to analyze network connectivity between Azure resources, enabling you to identify issues, troubleshoot problems, and ensure optimal performance.

Monitored Parameters

Navigate to the Category View by clicking the Monitors tab. Hover over 'Child Monitors' under Microsoft Azure in the Cloud Apps table, and then select the Network Watcher Connection monitor from the displayed tooltip. This action will display the bulk configuration view for Azure Network Watcher Connection in three tabs:

  • Availability tab gives the Availability history for the past 24 hours or 30 days.
  • Performance tab gives the Health Status and events for the past 24 hours or 30 days.
  • List view enables you to perform bulk admin configurations.

No of Test Groups The number of connection monitor test groups.
No of Test Configurations The number of connection monitor test configurations.
CONNECTION TEST STATUS
Connection Test Status The recent test result of the connection monitor in network watcher. Interpreted from numeric values:
0 - Indeterminate
1 - Passed
2 - Warning
3 - Failed
ROUND-TRIP TIME
Round-Trip Time The average network round-trip time for connectivity monitoring checks between the poll interval (in milliseconds).
CHECKS FAILED PERCENT
Checks Failed The average percentage of connectivity monitoring checks failed between the poll interval (in %).
Other Status The average percentage of connectivity monitoring checks with a status other than failed between the poll interval (in %).

Test Groups

Parameter Description
STATUS SPLIT-UP OF TEST GROUPS
Failed Test Groups The total number of Failed Test Groups at the time of polling.
Warning Test Groups The total number of Warning Test Groups at the time of polling.
Passed Test Groups The total number of Passed Test Groups at the time of polling.
Indeterminate Test Groups The total number of Indeterminate Test Groups at the time of polling.
Round-Trip Time of Test Groups
Round-Trip Time The 'Round-Trip Time of Test Groups' graph displays the top 10 Test Groups based on round trip time (in milliseconds).
Test Groups
Test Group Name The name of the Test Group.
Checks Failed Percent The average percentage of connectivity monitoring checks failed between the poll interval (in %).
Round-Trip Time The average network round-trip time for connectivity monitoring checks between the poll interval (in milliseconds).
Result The recent test result of the connection monitor in network watcher. Interpreted from numeric values:
0 - Indeterminate
1 - Passed
2 - Warning
3 - Failed
Status The status indicating whether the test group is enabled or disabled for monitoring.
No of Test Configurations The total number of connection monitor test configurations.

Test Configurations
Test Configuration Name The name of the Test Configuration.

Test Frequency The frequency of the test evaluation (in seconds).
Protocol The protocol to be used in the test evaluation.
Port The connected port.

Parameter Description
CONFIGURATION
Resource Group Name The name of the resource group.
Location The location of the resource.
Provisioning State The current provisioning state. Possible values:
  • Deleting
  • Failed
  • Succeeded
  • Updating
Connection Monitor Type The type of connection monitor. Possible values: MultiEndpoint/SingleSourceDestination.
Connection Start Time The date and time when the connection monitor was started.
Connection Duration The difference of days from start time to the current date.
