Microsoft Azure Public IP Address - An Overview

In Microsoft Azure, a Public IP Address is a resource that is used to enable communication to and from the internet for Azure resources, such as virtual machines, load balancers, and application gateways. Public IP Addresses can be associated with various Azure services and resources to make them accessible from the internet.

Monitored Parameters

Navigate to the Category View by clicking the Monitors tab. Hover over 'Child Monitors' under Microsoft Azure in the Cloud Apps table, and then select the Public IP Addresses monitor from the displayed tooltip. This action will display the bulk configuration view for Azure Public IP Address in three tabs:

  • Availability tab gives the Availability history for the past 24 hours or 30 days.
  • Performance tab gives the Health Status and events for the past 24 hours or 30 days.
  • List view enables you to perform bulk admin configurations.

The Microsoft Azure monitor provides a brief detail of the Azure Public IP Address under the given subscription. Following are the list of metrics monitored in Azure Public IP Address Monitoring in their corresponding tabs:

Note:
  • Azure Global and Gov accounts: The metrics under IP ADDRESS AVAILABILITY, IP DATA THROUGHPUT, and IP PACKET THROUGHPUT groups are supported only for the Standard SKU type.
  • Azure China accounts:
    • Public IP Address monitoring is supported only for the Standard SKU due to metric limitations.
    • The supported metrics are those under the IP ADDRESS AVAILABILITYIP DATA THROUGHPUT, and IP PACKET THROUGHPUT groups.

DDOS CONFIGURATION
Under DDoS attack or not Indicates whether the service is under DDoS attack or not between the poll interval. Possible values: Yes/No.
Inbound TCP packets to trigger DDoS Mitigation The maximum number of inbound TCP packets to trigger a DDoS Mitigation between the poll interval (in packets/s).
Inbound UDP packets to trigger DDoS Mitigation The maximum number of inbound UDP packets to trigger a DDoS Mitigation between the poll interval (in packets/s).
Inbound SYN packets to trigger DDoS Mitigation The maximum number of inbound SYN packets to trigger a DDoS Mitigation between the poll interval (in packets/s).
IP ADDRESS AVAILABILITY
Data Path Availability The average IP Address availability per time duration between the poll interval (in %).
IP DATA THROUGHPUT
Rate of Data Transmitted The total data transmitted per second between the poll interval (in MB/s).
IP PACKET THROUGHPUT
Rate of Packets Transmitted The total number of packets transmitted per second between the poll interval (in packets/s).
Rate of SYN Packets Transmitted The total number of SYN packets transmitted per second between the poll interval (in packets/s).

Inbound Packets DDoS The maximum number of inbound packets received per second during a DDoS attack between the poll interval (in packets/s).
Inbound Packets Dropped DDoS The maximum number of inbound packets dropped per second during a DDoS attack between the poll interval (in packets/s).
Inbound Packets Forwarded DDoS The maximum number of inbound packets forwarded per second during a DDoS attack between the poll interval (in packets/s).
TCP DDOS TRAFFIC (PACKETS)
Inbound TCP Packets DDoS The maximum number of inbound TCP packets received per second during a DDoS attack between the poll interval (in packets/s).
Inbound TCP Packets Dropped DDoS The maximum number of inbound TCP packets dropped per second during a DDoS attack between the poll interval (in packets/s).
Inbound TCP Packets Forwarded DDoS The maximum number of inbound TCP packets forwarded per second during a DDoS attack between the poll interval (in packets/s).
UDP DDOS TRAFFIC (PACKETS)

CONFIGURATION
Resource Group Name The name of the resource group.
Location The location of the resource.
Provisioning State The current provisioning state of the Public IP address resource. Possible values:
  • Deleting
  • Failed
  • Succeeded
  • Updating
SKU The type of SKU of the Azure service. Possible Values: Standard/Basic.
SKU Tier Tier of the Public IP Address SKU. Possible Values: Global/Regional.
IP Address Assignment The public IP address allocation method. Possible Values: Static/Dynamic.
IP Version The public IP address version. Possible Values: IPv4/IPv6.
IP Address The IP address associated with the public IP address resource.
Idle Timeout The idle timeout of the public IP address (in min).
