If you've been wondering how to check on Active Directory groups and how to see which Active Directory group a user is a part of, we've got you covered with the Active Directory group membership report in ADManager Plus. It's one of ADManager Plus' many granular AD reports. Using this tool's GUI, you can easily list group members in Active Directory—including members of nested security groups—without writing any PowerShell scripts. Export group membership reports to CSV, PDF, HTML, or XLSX format in just a few clicks. Schedule reports and email them to users automatically at a specific time.

Use ADManager Plus to view a complete list of Active Directory group members from specific groups and narrow down the results using built-in filters. For example, use filters when generating the Detailed Group Members report to control the specific types of objects you wish to include (such as users, groups, or computers) or exclude (such as nested groups or mail-enabled contacts), as shown in Figure 1. You can also apply filters to the generated reports to display the member and memberOf attributes of groups. Customize reports to display only the attributes you want to see.

ADManager Plus offers the following group membership reports:

  • Group members report

This report fetches the details of the members of the selected group. It lists the LDAP of all the users and checks the 'memberOf' attribute to generate the results.

  • Groups without members report

This report helps you identify groups without any members and helps you clean-up your AD environment effortlessly.

  • Users only members of domain users group report

This report generates the list of users who aren't members of any group other than the domain users group.

  • Detailed group members report

The Detailed Group Members report further drills down from a particular Active Directory security or distribution group to its nested groups, and fetches the group membership recursively. Administrators can use the powerful filters along with 'list view' and 'summary view' to view any specific detail that they need.

  • Users not in groups and computers not in groups reports

One can also view the list of users and computers that are not a member of specific groups via Users Not in Groups and Computers Not in Groups reports respectively.

You can also perform the desired management actions right from within these reports. For example, disable or delete specific user accounts right from the Users Not in Groups report.
