This section is common to all the editions of IT360 - Professional Edition, Enterprise Edition (Probes only) and MSP Edition (Probes only).
The status polling for a device can be controlled, based on its dependency on some other device. This prevents the unnecessary status checks, made to the dependent nodes.
For instance, many devices are connected to a switch. If the switch goes down, all the devices connected to it will not be reachable. In this case, it is unnecessary to check the status of the dependent devices.
To configure the dependency for several devices, follow the steps given
Click the Admin tab in the header pane.
Click Alarms under Actions.
Now, choose Network Devices from the Actions profiles for dropdown. The Notification Profiles wizard is displayed.
Select the option "Configure Device Dependencies" option and click Next. The below wizard is displayed:
Now, choose a Device Group, from the available 3 options;
Assign to all devices in the category. After choosing this option, just select the Category of the device, i.e. Router, Switch, Firewall, etc., from the available drop down.
Assign to all devices in the business view. After choosing this option, just select a Business View, from the available drop down.
Manually group devices.
If you had chosen i or ii, you will be able to see a confirmation notification, as below;
Click Finish. You will be able to see a confirmation notification of the device dependencies configured for the selected devices.
You can also configure dependencies for a single device, from the Device Snapshot page. Here are the steps;
Go to the Device Snapshot page.
Click on the Device Details tab and from there, click on the icon.
You will now be able to edit the device details. From the Dependency drop down list, select the appropriate device.
IT360 stops monitoring the devices if the dependent device is down.
Configuring dependencies prevents false alarms.
