As of September 1, 2025, Microsoft began deprecating the Get-MessageTrace and Get-MessageTraceDetail cmdlets for tenants in the Microsoft 365 global cloud and has replaced it with the Get-MessageTraceV2 and Get-MesageTraceDetailV2 cmdlets.
This article will explore the implications of this change and how we ensure uninterrupted access to the reports that used to rely on this cmdlet.
M365 Security Plus had been using the Get-MessageTrace and Get-MessageTraceDetail cmdlets for certain audit actions.
The audit actions that have been successfully migrated to the Get-MessageTraceV2 cmdlet are mentioned below. Update to M365 Security Plus build 4802 to ensure access to these reports.
| Module | Category | Report |
| Audit | Mail Trace | All Mail Trace |
| Delivered Mails | ||
| Expanded MailTrace | ||
| Failed Mails | ||
| Pending Mails |
If you use any of the affected reports, you should update our M365 Security Plus instance to the upcoming build 4802 to ensure uninterrupted access.
Apart from this, no other action is required from your end for a seamless Microsoft 365 administrative experience. All other M365 Security Plus functions remain unaffected.
