Enterprises are no longer the only places where mobile devices are gaining importance. Schools and other educational institutions have begun adopting mobile devices and tablets to improve the learning experience. While mobile devices and tablets help enhance the experience for teachers and students, it is important to ensure that these devices are secure and managing these devices doesn't burden the institution.
To further bolster the use of mobile devices in educational institutions, Apple introduced Apple School Manager (ASM) and simplified device management by allowing mobile device management (MDM) solutions to integrate with it.
Apple School Manager (ASM) is a free web-based service provided by Apple that allows school admins to manage mobile devices such as iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple TVs from a single console. By integrating with MDM solutions, it also allows admins to deploy device configurations and distribute apps to the devices.
Mobile Device Manager Plus integrates with ASM to provide a solution to the specific device management needs of schools and other educational institutions. Here are the benefits of integrating ASM with Mobile Device Manager Plus

Recently, Apple has upgraded and combined both these portals into Apple Business Manager (ABM) and Apple School Manager (ASM). If you have an account for your schools in the older portal, you can migrate your devices and apps by following the steps given here.
In addition to simplifying the management of devices used in schools, Apple has introduced the Classroom App that allows teachers to conduct classes using iPads.
