Adding members belonging to specific departments to specific groups

Solution: ADManager Plus allows you to assign users to distribution groups based on the department using two ways.

Using Dynamic Distribution groups:

  • Click Management tab.
  • Select Group Management from the left navigation tab.
  • Under Dynamic Distribution Group Management section, select Create Single Dynamic Distribution Group.
  • Select the domain in which the dynamic distribution group has to be created and choose the template of your choice.
  • Enter the values in the fields in all the tabs in the group creation dialog box.
  • To assign the users belonging to the department Technology, a condition has to be added. In the Filters tab , click Add Conditions. From the Select Field drop-down list, select Department , Is from the second drop down list and select Technology from the last drop-down list and select Create.
  • Thus the members of the dynamic distribution group Tech.all will have all the users from the department Technology.

Using Automation:

  • Click Automation tab.
  • Select Create New Automation from the top right corner of the page.
  • Enter the Automation Name and Description. In the Automation category, select User Automation. Select the domain from the drop-down list and if necessary, select the OU(s).
  • In Automation Task/Policy, select Add to Group from the drop-down list. In Select Groups, select the desired group 'Tech.all' from the dialog box.
  • Under Select Objects section, select any preferred report (for eg, Enabled Users) containing the users belonging to the department 'Technology' to be added the selected group. Click OK. You can also import the CSV file containing users who have to be added to the group and this can be done by giving the location of the CSV file.
  • Under the Execution Time section, enter the time and interval at which the task should be run.
  • Click Save. By following the above steps, the automation task will be run at the specified time and interval, which will add selected users belonging to the department 'Technology' to the 'Tech.all' group.
