How to manage group policies using ADManager Plus

Objective: To manage group policy objects (GPOs) using ADManager Plus.

Solution: ADManager Plus offers purpose-built features which allow you to perform GPO management operations such as creating, modify, enable, disable and delete GPOs and GPO links.

Steps to manage GPOs.

  1. Click the Management tab.
  2. From the options on the left hand side of the console, click GPO Management.
  3. In the GPO Management page, click Manage GPOs.
  4. To create a GPO, click the Create New GPO button.
    • In the Create New GPO page, enter a suitable GPO Name.
    • Click Link Later if you do not with to link it to any container now.
    • Click Link Now to link this GPO to a container.
      • Select OU/Domain, and select the desired domain or OUs to link the new GPO to them.
      • Select Sites, and pick the desired ones, to link this GPO to sites.
  5. To modify or edit a GPO,
    • Select the desired domain.
    • In Edit GPO Settings window, locate the administrative template to be modified using the search option located in the page.
      You can also go to the setting as shown below:
      GPO Name ? Computer/User Configuration ? Policies ? Administrative Templates
    • Select the folder where the setting to be edited is available, and select the setting to be edited.
    • In the window that opens, you can enable,disable, or not configure the setting; make the desired changes.
    • Click 'Apply' to save the changes.
  6. To enable or disable GPOs' user or computer configuration settings or completely,
    • Select the desired domain.
    • To enable or disable either the user or computer configuration settings alone, select the desired GPO, and use the toggle buttons located in the User and Computer configuration settings columns of that GPO.
      To enable or disable only the user or computers configurations of multiple GPOs, or multiple GPOs completely, select the desired GPOs and select the appropriate option from the Manage option placed above the GPOs list.
  7. To delete a GPO,
    • Use the delete icon located in the action column of the respective GPO. To delete multiple GPOs at once, select the desired GPOs and select Delete from the Manage option.

Steps to create and manage GPO links.

  1. Click the Management tab.
  2. From the options on the left hand side of the console, click GPO Management.
  3. In the GPO Management page, select the Manage GPO Links feature.
  4. Select the desired domain/OU/site.
  5. To add a new GPO link, click the New GPO Links button.
    • In the window that opens up, select the target domain, OUs, or sites for the GPOs using the Link GPOs option.
    • Select the required GPOs, and click Link GPOs.
  6. To enforce, enable/disable, or remove links, or to block/unblock inheritance,
    • Select the desired GPO whose links you wish to manage.
    • From the Manage option located just above the GPOs list, select the required action.
